We have contemplated going back to the GC, but I would only do it by chopper having had a horrendous experience with turbulence on the Cessna. However the choppers only go to the West Rim which the purist says isn't the real canyon so I'm a bit reluctant to spend that kind of money and not really enjoy it.

Do you really mean you won't enjoy it as some people don't classify it as the real canyon????????

done the plane/chopper/boat tour to west rim and thought it was an amazing experience. The canyon was impressive, the service great and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There may be more spectacular views of the canyon from other locations but what we saw we thought was pretty damn impressive.

Wracking my brain and I really can't think of a site in the USA that left me as disappointed as the GC did. Only been the once so far and next time (if we can build up enough enthusiasm) will be getting to the bottom, one way or another - rim only tour .....hmmmmm, if you are going to do it, do it right - drive and stop the night.

Why were you disappointed? I doubt many people are disappointed the first time they see over the rim

So what is the best hotel everyone has stayed at?

For me, its the Wynn hotel.

    MY REASONS:-
Completely different atmosphere to any other hotel - serene almost.
    Not crowded
    Five star
Wonderful, comfortable rooms and exquisite beds with fantastic pillows/duvets etc.
    Amazing bathroom with "waterfall" bath.
    Gorgeous Decor throughout.
    Fantastic Pool
    Lovely smell throughout.

Stayed there first time in 2005 for 5 nights, then in 2006 for 2 nights and 2008 for 2 nights.
Staying again this year for 2 nights as part of our 14 night visit to Vegas.

Other hotels stayed at - The Rio, The Orleans.
Other hotels visited - nearly all of em!
Cannot wait to see Encore - I have high expectations.

    Why? Whats yours?.....

    Absolutely amazed at this wydw!

Having visited the Canyon during our third trip to Vegas in 2008 I have to say it had the complete opposite effect on me! I adored it.
Could have stayed there for hours.
It felt really spiritual and you really do feel insignificant amongst the simply breathtaking scenery.

Granted, we did visit by helicopter, land, have champagne and a picnic and had about 30 mins to explore and take it all in.

Just goes to show you how different people's perceptions can be eh?

I would go every trip if I could afford it. Was a special treat as a result of a modest poker win and if my OH wins again this year I will suggest we visit again!

its our first trip to Vegas at the end of May and just wanted some advice on eating out, I know the subject is probably never ending but would like to have one special meal while we are there so any recommendations would be very helpful, and also what buffets people recommend, thanks

Best buffets are listed in the guide . Bellagio and Planet Hollywood are the best IMO . Bellagio if you want the extra special meal , usually a queue but so worth it for a food lover like me .

try our restaurant Recommendations on post 4 . it comes up time and time again , But Mon Ami Gabi @ Paris with a patio table is a great option .

if you want a special steak then thats worthy of a whole different discussion .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

    Hi Gracie,
    We booked with Papillon.
We actually booked it whilst we were in Vegas - two days before going.
We booked online through their website. It was cheaper that way.
I cant remember the name of the tour - we did quite a bit of research.
Was really good! Are you thinking of going?

I found something less impressive, The Hoover Dam!! But got to admit GC is up there in the top 3;)
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I got to go with you on this, but them I am notoriously hard to please, I even thought the Hoover Dam was quite small!!;)
