On a completely different note, our hotel says we get a 'complimentary' booklet full of coupons (at a cost of the resort fee) for various things when we check in. In anyones experience are these coupons ever worth the paper they are written on, or should we be looking at getting discount vouchers and booking things etc. online before we go to get better deals?

    Thanks :)

Which hotel? we have had some decent vouchers at check-in, though usually they were vouchers we could get elsewhere fairly easily. We did get a free Rio Show-in-the-Sky ride voucher once (staying at Bally's) - that was one I hadn't seen elsewhere...possibly a few others. The vouchers you get at check in are always in our experience for attractions/restaurants/shopping in that hotel/casino or that hotel/casino and their sister properties...so you aren't going to check in at MGM and get a voucher for a free drink at Paris or anything. :)

You know that's Red Rock Canyon and not the Grand Canyon? ;)

This isn't the Grand Canyon, but the Red Rock Canyon, much closer to Las Vegas.

It's supposed to be very beautiful, but a very different place.

Virgin Reward Flights sale now on - only 25,000 miles for November/December.
Spent 20 minutes on the phone to Flying Club today and managed to bag 2 seats end of July from MAN, (there was no availability showing on the website)then upgraded to PE using Amex rewards, £470 all in, can't be bad. :D. So that's 2 trips in 2 months.
And to think that alot of those miles were gained when MAXjet went bust and we had to fly home free on VS, they even gave us FC miles and 25% bonus because of being Silver. Then 10,000 miles extra each because I kicked off about the IFE being broken.
Hey, if you don't ask, you don't get;)
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks for the info sounds like a nice place to be. Is it only a short walk and can it be done safely at night time or would a cab be a better option?
It doesn't bother me and OH but some might not be to chuffed about walking there. I would say from Flamingo a cabbie might get a bit PO'ed with the $6 fare. You can walk via Ballys sport book and you are only out on the street for 5 minutes, but then again that is all it takes, right!!!!!

I dressed up for our meal at MAG..well I put a collared short sleeve shirt and jeans on (thats dressed up for me) only to find most other guys in shorts and flip flops so wish I hadnt bothered.

The fact that you dont have to dress up in Vegas is one of the things that appeals to me
Why do you wish you hadn't bothered? I bet you were the best dressed in the place and looked very nice, it is only respectful to dress appropriately for dinner. When we go there we are dressed up to the nines
Also, getting dressed up is not a chore, more of an opportunity, what with how most people tend to dress these days.

Quick Question, I have just bought a restaurant.com voucher for Top of the World, paid $2 for a $25 voucher which is great. Do you need to book for the Top of The World restaurant or can you just turn up and wait?

I have exactly 4 weeks and 5 days before I am no longer a Las Vegas virgin and I cannot wait!

We have stayed there 4 times. In my view one of the top 3 places we have stayed, (the others being Four Seasons and Encore) . I hope you only booked a Solitaire suite because without fail we have been upgraded to a Princess without even asking!! Drop them an email and say you are staying for a week and would like to know if you can have a room with a washing machine. Go shopping to Walmart and get OJ and muffins, there is coffee and a machine in the room, then sit out on the balcony every morning and take in the new day with breakfast. They have a get together on a Wednesday night hosted by the manager with free drinks and nibbles.
OK, do you have a car? If so there is no self parking so you end up sparking out a couple of dollars each time you want your car out. You can not turn left out of the place so you have to drive away from the strip for a quarter mile to do a U turn. Don't forget to walk over to Ellis Island for the BBQ, it's only 30 seconds away!!!
If you do not have a car good luck with the taxis. No drivers go down Flamingo empty to pick up fares so you can be in for a pretty long wait even though the bell boy goes into the road with a neon torch to get one for you. The pool area will be empty and it is like a sauna on the deck. Plenty of towels and really comfy double sunbeds, but no bar service, you have to go into the restaurant and get someone if you want a drink.
If you are walking it is only 10 mins max to the strip up Flamingo, the area looks kinda like a dump but the drunks are harmless enough and they don't beg you for money.:D If you want to stay out of the sun hang a left into the sports book at Ballys half way up and go through there to get to Paris, Bellagio, PlanetAladinwood.
We will probably be staying there again in May if we can get a good deal.
just quickly posting this from Platinum now whilst i'm waiting for the missus to get ready (ARGH! it always takes longer when a jacuzzi bath is on the scene!)

We booked under the 'spring fling' offer you posted at the beginning of the year and just wanted to say thanks again! :) had a great time here and well worth the $99 a night (with free 'sparkling' wine and internet)

Spent last night eating chips and dips and having a few beers sat on the patio watching all the helicopters flying over the strip, and managed to walk down to the Atomic Testing museum from here yesterday too :)

For us, this place has been all about the relaxation than anything - the place is dead and it's a nice feeling! Was at the pool yesterday and there were around 5 other people there, and the guy was quite frequent coming round asking us if we wanted drinks, we also did a bit of shopping at Walmart so it's good to know we don't have to go out for food (but can if we want). All the staff are all so nice and much friendlier as well (that may be because it's quiet tho?)

Right, missus is nearly ready so I will post more when i get back...! onto Encore next :)

(PS. we didn't get upgraded to a princess, though they have put us into a stripview and didn't even ask :) )
