Can anyone who has flown from Manchester to Chicago- Vegas help us. We have only 1 hour 45 between flights and are worried that we not make the connection in time. When i booked it i was under the impression that we would not have to collect our baggage at Chicago but now it seems that we will have to.

You always have to collect your luggage at your first port of entry into the US...you then have to recheck it, but that doesn't mean going back to the check-in area and queuing again or anything - there's a designated re-check area that is on the way between where you've arrived and where you need to go to get to your connecting gate...you'll be queing for immigration while your bags are being processed anyway (usually)...most times we've arrived at ORD by the time we're through immigration our bags are either on the carousel by the time we get there or just coming out.

You can check immigration wait times here to get an idea.

I hadn't heard about this...wow...I wonder if they will make any changes to the habitat as a result. There's a longer version of the video (with sound - you can hear slot machines, it's very odd!) here

  • flying out on Monday for the first time, so excited!

i know the strip has more than enough to offer, but does anyone venture over to Paradise Rd (parallel to the strip to the east)? only i've read a couple of restaurant recommendations for there, just wondering what it's like?

Is it spring break or something? June hotels are quite cheap but the flights seem expensive. Anybody seen any good deals? Thanks ;0)
Spring break and March Madness push prices up quite a lot and (obviously) Vegas is packed.

March Madness referencing the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament. It may not sound like a lot, but it really is a big deal. As I mentioned a bit ago we are looking at flights in March and so last night I looked up the MM dates for 2011 to see if we could work out dates that did NOT put us in Vegas during the earlier rounds, at least.

    Opening round - 15th
    1st/2nd round - 17-20th March
    Regionals - 24-27th March
    Final 4 - 2nd to 4th of April

The earlier in the tournament it is the more crowds from what I've been told - because more people have the team they support still in the tournament.

Spring break varies by school...this gives an idea (though not sure it's yet been updated for 2011).

Thanks for the reply! Have you found any good deals? Don't mind if we end up having to go in April. (would really have liked to have been there on 23rd March, as Lady GaGa is at the MGM Grand). With all of the above going on, it might be best to avoid March!

Regarding the canyon we are thinking of going with http://www.scootcitytours.com/Car.html

I did the Scoot City tour a couple of weeks ago after reading about it on here and can highly recommend it, well worth the money!!

We had been on a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon the day before (which cost us $340 each with Sundance) and were worried that we would be mightily unimpressed with the scenery etc but these worries turned out to be completely unfounded - the Red Rock canyon is a completely different landscape (and in my opinion much more interesting!)

The service from Scoot City was top notch - I had emailed Johnny the owner a couple of times prior to our trip - and as it turns out he took the tour on the day we went. result! We had such a good time, driving the scooters was easy and soooo much fun, I don't think I have ever laughed so much in one morning. The tour was really personal with lots of stops and photo opportunities along the way, lots of interaction with the other people on the tour as well which we enjoyed. I actually much preferred it to the GC helicopter trip which you could tell was the same day in day out (we felt a bit like sheep), the scooter tour was more fun and much much much better value for money!!

Any questions about it, just ask me - I lurked on here for months before my trip and picked up loads of good info so I hope I can help someone else now I have been :)

    June
    hi guys,

i'm heading off next june to get married, gonna be in vegas for probably a week. We have 3 nights in caesars already sorted, 2 as part of the wedding package.

Looking for a bit of advice as to where to spend the remaining 4 nights - we've been to vegas a couple of times but stayed in excalibur and luxor. Looking at more upmarket hotels this time, maybe PH or Aria also noticed from this thread that we could get a spa suite in mgm for £305 (until tomorrow)

    Any tips or advice?
    cheers
    zaf.

Just had a bungalow suite at MGM, I think they are the same size as the spa suites. I wouldnt call it upmarket just big. It was a very big room but as with all the rooms at MGM they need an upgrade to flatscreen tvs etc.

I would go for the Wynn or Encore for upmarket

Getting Zapped at Slots, door handles, other people etc.!!

We usually go Spring time and I always suffer badly, getting zapped everywhere.

Last month In the middle of summer I didnt get zapped anywhere, it was such a relief. I dont know why it is so different in the summer though
