    hi guys

has anyone just turned up at one of the hotels and asked about their rates and got a good deal? I am debating whether to book something before we fly or just take a chance and negotiate a deal once we get there?

    Thanks everyone!!

Yes, walked up to the Stardust about 10 years ago and they basically gave the room to us and got a room at the MGM for $20 just walking up to the desk (all in the days before dedicated travel advice websites)

However, we would never ever try doing that nowadays!! The deals offered a few months in advance are great and why take the risk of getting stung.

Hi all, I have been reading through your page for some time and been picking up some great tips for our next trip to Vegas. This will be booked for august 2011 and we are hoping to stay at the encore and get married in the Wynn. We have been to Vegas twice before and love the place. We have stayed at the planet Hollywood both times although the first time we went it was the Alladin although I believe had just been taken over. I have already got a quote for next august which I hope to use as the maximum cost with the aim to get this knocked down as much as possible. The quote was direct with virgin and for two people flying direct and staying in a panoramic suite is coming out at 2450! A few questions I have for you great people. How much do you think I could get this down to booking individually? Also the wedding plans on the wynn's website have set prices. Has anyone tried negotiating these and been successful? We want to get the best room and the best price price as do most but not sure if it's best to book a basic room and try the 20 dollar trick or bite the bullet and go for the room we really want?

AUGUST 2010 GOES DOWN AS A WARM AND DRY MONTH -

THE CLOSE OF AUGUST 2010 RESULTED IN ANOTHER SUMMER MONTH GOING DOWN
AS ONE OF THE WARMEST EVER ON RECORD. AT THE OFFICIAL CLIMATE
STATION AT MCCARRAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
WAS 91.4 DEGREES. THIS IS 2.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND RANKS AS THE
9TH WARMEST AUGUST EVER ON RECORD. THE WARMEST AUGUST EVER WAS BACK
IN 1995 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 93.1 DEGREES.

THE WARM FINISH TO THIS MONTH WAS LARGELY DUE TO THE OVERNIGHT LOW
TEMPERATURES BEING WELL ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. THE AVERAGE LOW
FOR AUGUST 2010 WAS 80.1 DEGREES WHICH IS 3.4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.
THIS RANKS AS THE 5TH WARMEST EVER ON RECORD. THE AVERAGE HIGH
TEMPERATURE BY COMPARISON WAS 102.7 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.9 DEGREE
    ABOVE NORMAL.

THERE WERE 24 DAYS AT THE OFFICIAL CLIMATE STATION WITH A HIGH
TEMPERATURE IN THE TRIPLE DIGITS WHICH IS 2 ABOVE NORMAL. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE AT MCCARRAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS 108
DEGREES ON THE 5TH AND 15TH.

I did get to eat at MAG for the first time on my birthday, we decided to sit just inside by the patio as it was so hot, we enjoyed it but I wasnt overly impresed with the food.

Got to use my Stripburger $25 off, again we enjoyed it but dont think I would go back.

We went down to Fremont st as we havent been for a few years, the light show was "American Pie" Don Maclean, that was good to sing along to, also had the pic taken in Binions with the 1,000,000 dollars.

MAG - its not the best food on the strip, but its cheap enough and its got a great location.

Stripburger ....its a burger, say no more!

The "American Pie" light show is absolutely amazing - there is so much about that song that now makes sense (apart the obvious aspects of it)such as the Stones Altamunt concert in 1969. A show you could watch 10 times and still pick up new things from it.

We also got to see Doors, Queen and Kiss shows.

The Queen show is our favorite, but we haven't seen Kiss yet - may have to schedule our trip accordingly...though from the schedule looks like it's normally 11pm or midnight and we're never down there that late.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Can anyone advise if the 'Titanic' exhibition is worth seeing? My OH is 40 next year and a big Titanic fan (the ship and the history not the film!) so I'm thinking of taking him to Vegas and doing that as part of it?
Also I'm sure there are loads but any 'spectacular' restaurants for a special birthday dinner?
    Thanks
    C xx

Really ? On the news they were saying how August was one of the hottest on record. I was there from 23rd aug until the 3rd sep and it never fell below 90 in the day and we didnt feel a cool breeze, more like a fan oven. It did cool down in the middle of our 10 days to the mid 90s but was forecast 107 again the day we left
Yea, it's weird, I mean the 25th, 26th and 27th were incredibly warm and I was throwing the Factor 50 on like there was no tomorrow (I burn reallllyyy easily), yet the 28th, 29th and 30th I barely even put any cream (12pm-2pm-ish) on as me and my friends walked the strip with ease. Also those who said it was 'cold' on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday were two Taxi drivers, one helpful bloke on concierge and various natives we met on the Strip. Maybe we just managed to explore at the right times...
