    Just looking for people's advice...

I know I'm looking waaaaay in advance but I'm getting all excited :D
Me and bf have booked flights to vegas (and LA) for May 2011, and I keep looking at hotels.

I've seen NYNY rates are out for May now, and we'd be looking at $65-80 a night (5 nights total incl resort fees and taxes $475). Is this a pretty reasonable rate for NYNY? I know you can always cancel, just wanted to get an idea. Should point out we're in LV Sun-Fri so avoiding weekend rates.

And what do people think of NYNY as a first-timers hotel? Bf has been before, to Planet Hollywood, so he wants something different this time. I know people will always have bad points, but me and the bf aren't too fussy, won't be spending masses of time in our room.

Reasonable price so if it is 100% refundable , no harm in booking it up now . keep eyes open for other offers though .

We very much enjoyed our stay at NYNY( our very first trip ) . It's main benefit is that it's not as huge as some other casinos . Bed and room were very nice . Ignore people who moan about the roller coaster . it does not run all the time and never disturbed us once . Pool area is NYNY biggest shortcoming , too small and in the shade a lot , but it might be fine for what you want .

2 for 1 is easy to obtain for the roller coaster which is a good thrill ride . good mexican food at Gonzalaz Gonzalaz and Nine Fine Irishman ( that also does a proper Guinness . also check out the Corned Beef sandwiches for lunch )

Chin Chin was lousy . America Cafe good for late night snacks . i made the fatal mistake of going in Coyote Ugly for a quick beer one trip , my ear drums were still ringing on the plane home the next day .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

That's the trouble with playing the comps game-I'm starting to find I resent gambling outside of Total Rewards now LOL

That's true - Total Rewards is the best for us as they seem to really value slot players, but luckily we've stuck to our 'old' way of doing things and just play where we want to play and what comps come, then great. We have thought on days where we lost a ton (usually at MGM properties) 'if we would have played at HET casinos at least we would have gotten something out of it!' But so far it's not stopped us. I remember the first few trips when we didn't bother signing up for players cards as we thought we didn't play enough to earn anything, and the first time we DID sign up and going to book the next trip (through TR) and being very OMG! Why did we not do this years ago.

It *is* a lovely feeling to see that COMP across all the dates you are looking for. I never expected to get that from Total Rewards but it seems as my trips are short it benefits me more than the longer stays somehow. I guess if you're there a week you might gamble more but your "spend" is averaged out over 8 days (and you'll naturally go other places some days) whereas mine might be less but averaged over fewer days so looks better ?

Like you I never expected to get anything-At the time we stayed at Coast properties and I'd get a few dollars back for meals now and again -then someone told me to ASK for casino rate before checking out-and my (already reasonable) rate halved -but by getting casino rate it seemed to trigger free room offers and at that point it started to get a lot more interesting ;)

This year I've had 1 night free at the Rio (added later as I decided to arrive a day early) 4 nights at Flamingo including the weekend-and my coming trip is 2 nights at Caesars (in a decent tower) and another 2 at the Flamingo again (could have had all 4 at the Flamingo but wanted to try Caesars out and as it was free seemed rude not to ;) ) Not bad for penny slots !

CSI experience for 1/2 price now available at Goldstar.

    http://www.goldstar.com/e/37475

looks like dates to early September at the moment...and the $4.50 per ticket fee is a bit appaling...but I suppose it's still better than $30 full price...and still better than using the $5 off coupon.

It's still too expensive for me based on the reviews I've read I think.

Do you know how often do these roll on to include new dates? We'll be there 15-20th September and my hubbie really wants to do this!!

We have stayed at NYNY 4 out of 4 times that we have visited Vegas (last time in June) so we obviously have liked it.

I must admit that this time we were quite dissappointed that the rooms have not been updated. We first stayed there in 2005 and the rooms we have stayed in have always looked the same. I think we will have a change next time.

That said we love the atmosphere, eating places, location and the roller coaster has never bothered us.

I think it's the first time that CSI has been available this way, so not sure. I would check back in a couple of weeks and see. Really, I would read the reviews of it as most don't think it's worth it but at least if you go expecting it to be just so-so you might be pleasantly surprised.

If he likes that sort of thing, I'd really recommend Mystery Adventures...we've already been twice and will go again when the mystery changes.
