Just got back yesterday on the Virgin flights and it really isn't bad. It's basic, and they ran out of beer on the outbound flight (which is very typical apparently, and this despite our flight being only half full). Legroom is limited, food is average, service is fine.
Stayed at MGM and I wouldn't stay there again. Would definitely pick the Venetian or Belaggio next time. The rooms at MGM are great, but the casino/shopping/food is a let down and it's a fair way to what I'd consider the 'centre' of the strip around Paris & Belaggio. The only thing about me is the way I walk.0 -

I don't really know why this flight gets so many negative comments. Based on some of the comments anyone would thing you'd be travelling on a plane from the 70's.
We've flown economy with Virgin on the Gatwick-Vegas and Heathrow-LAX routes and sure, the newer Airbus plane was nicer and had better IFE than that on the older 747 plane on the Vegas flight.
But is it really that bad?
We're flying with AA from Manchester via Chicago to Vegas in September, and there isn't even any in seat entertainment on those flights.0 -
like most people would say on here its really down to personal choice ive flown with virgin to vegas for ten years now living 20 minutes from the airport its not convienient to travel to heathrow some are happy to change planes just to stretch there legs also saving the time at vegas dealing with immigration yes they are older planes we wait with baited breath next year if they are updated entertainment isnt great not video on demand like some and yes they still run out of beer but i doubt if that happens in first class0

Virgin Gatwick isn't bad. I use them every year. The only downside is the In Flight entertainment needs updating to match the rest of the fleet (due to happen late this year i think?).
I have also used BA and prefered the Gatwick Virgin flight to the BA Heathrow.0 -
Virgin , gatwick-LAS is BAD.
The worst thing that no one has mentioned is there is no padding in the seat cushions so take your own (I do), no legroom, the IFE entertainment often doesnt work, and is outdated, on a loop, there are many stag parties on board getting drunk and loud, the staff are overworked so dont expect to see them with drinks very often, soft or alchoholic.
Apart from that it is fine, but those seats, I can feel the numbness now:eek:0 -

747's were designed in the 1960's actually .

i can handle crap IFE ( i have a IPOD and a DS) , i can handle stag do's , i can handle running out of free drinks , i can even handle slightly surly staff . but i cannot stand the seats for 10 hours +.:mad::mad:
very very cramped , poor legroom , poor cushioning , and very poor layout . hence 1st time i stood by the exit door for 6 hours pretty much , last time i sat in the toilet for about 4 hours ( they have 4 toilets at the back and on the night flight there was never anyone waiting , in case you were thinking i was being really selfish ) .
i might be tempted at around £300 , but no way would i pay £500 + for that flight . :ABetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

no it isnt. i flew it last month and found it to be fine. As someone who flies quite a bit i have been on much worse planes than the virgin 747s but can see why some people do not like them.0 -
JuneThe oldest Virgin 747 was delivered 1994
