AugustGreen used to make a few howlers like that when he was at Norwich.
Lifted these comments from the currency thread posted by someone else watching in the states and agrees with you about them knowing nothing
"Your goaltender should have made that play"
"Your offense has been disappointing"
"What are those white flags with a red cross on them?"
"Wow, we tied. That's awesome"
The Best ( or worst ) comment on the England v USA game, was the headline in the New York Post.....It read " USA Win 1-1" :rotfl:0 -
hi there
sorry ur absolutely right i didnt explain myself properly, just been waffling in a sleep deprived way (baby is teething lol!!!)
we originally wanted to go from 27th aug - 3rd sept
virgin flights were £800 each for those dates, but i noticed that if we went from 27th aug to 5th sept it was £727(ish) each so cheaper for a nine day stay so we were considering that instead!
the thing is everyone keeps telling me thats expensive so i logged back on here for some advice and have been pointed in the direction of AA which i checked and their flights (indirect changing in chigago) were £1100 between 27aug and 5th sept (9 days)
so now im in a confused state of whether to pay extra for the convienience of going direct (and the chance of an upgrade from someone i know at virgin) or save the money (approx £350) and do the indirect flight transfer thing
also my story is made more confusing by the fact i was gonna stay at the monte carlo with a deal luci posted but its expired so now i dont know what hotel to choose - im thinking nyny for the first 5 days then after the wedding a juniour suite in the signature but mixed reviews on both these places and from what i can see not a great success rate for the $20 trick in either of these. looking at about £500 - £600ish for hotels for the 9 days - any ideas?
also last but not least i believe i would have to secure the hotel with a credit card but do i have to pay the remaining balance on check out with the same card i paid the deposit on. basically im a stay at home mum now and have a credit card with a limit of £500 but cant get it increased as no personal income. oh works but doesnt have a credit card - plan on getting him one before we go but that menas i will secure the hotel and he will pay with his card on checking out (or cash if they accept but i have a sneaky suspicion the answer is no)
sorry im useless at trying to get my point accross via typing especially with my baby brain
thanks

You can make the booking with one credit card and give a different one at check-in - we've done it before and no problems at all. You could pay with cash, but I think that you would either have to leave a credit card against the room when you check in and pay cash when you check out - or you would have to pay cash up front (if that is an option). Remember that at many hotels when you check in they will put a hold on the card for the remainder of the room charges + an incidental amount per night which can end up causing some people with low credit limits some trouble. You can usually leave a cash deposit and forego the option to charge to the room to get around the amount of the hold for incidentals.
Oh, and on the Virgin vs AA thing - we used to be die hard Virgin to Vegas flyers as the direct thing just seemed so much better, but we've jumped ship to AA now...it's a much nicer experience we think (but we always make sure we are on a 777 on the transatlantic flights as they have seat-back entertainment and are bigger planes - some of their transatlantic flights are on smaller planes with drop-down screens which we feel wouldn't suit us). The Virgin planes out of LGW are really old and worn and not very comfortable. ON the AA 777s at least there are pairs of seats down the sides of the plane, whereas on Virgin there are only 8 (I think) pairs at the back which are usually booked way in advance or are sold as extra leg room seats at check-in. So on Virgin if you're a couple chances are you'll have a random stranger next to you, whereas with AA you have a much better chance of sitting on your own. The legroom seems better on AA too - at least a little bit. I like the cabin crew on AA better - they are more mature people, and I think overall more agreeable. Some of the VA flight attendants are a bit up their own bottoms I think. We like the change at ORD though it does mean you still have a fair flight to go after the connection, but last time we flew out via LAX instead and that flight seemed to take forever, and the change at LAX was a bit of a pain too...the internal leg on AA isn't as comfortable as the transatlantic leg and there's no free food (free soft drinks/tea/coffee but pay for everything else -we usually buy a sandwich at the airport if we want to eat as it's a better selection and they do run out in flight). We've only ever made the ORD connection on the way back from Vegas but both times it's been without a terminal change which means it's very easy. So there are benefits both ways. Some will prefer one, others will prefer the other.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Ferf has explained the credit card situation and the flights, just to add the Virgin direct flight from Gatwick is the PITS, the ONLY good thing about it is it is direct.
Ask Trets, he sits in luxury in the toilet for 10 hours cause thats better than the economy seats.
Cant answer your upgrade possibility but can say that the Vegas flight is nearly always full.
As for hotels I usually budget about $60 to $$70 a night or about £40 to £45 so I would be looking at just under £400 for 9 nights it should be doable, as I said have you checked all the links, friends and family etc?
edit
the last couple of deals posted by Ferf and Luci will get you a bungalow suite at the MGm for around $60 a night for your dates0 -

I am flying with Delta on the 25th August, Gatwick via Atlanta. Returning on the 1st September, into Heathrow via Minneapolis. I live fairly near Gatwick, but Heathrow isn't too much of a hardship for £406 each return:D
One thing about flying indirect is that you can clear immigration and customs in Atlanta (it's pretty slow though) and just breeze through at Las Vegas.
I recently went to Dallas and had quite a long layover in Atlanta on the way back. I caught the train from the airport into the centre of town for about $4 return - quite a nice diversion. The force is strong in this one!0 -
thankd ferf and photome - great info about the credit card stuff and the flights
think im set on booking the aa one now - just gotta see if they'll accept my debit card as payment
just out of interest whats the food like on AA? and are all drinks free including the alcohol?

It was interesting watching the game amongst american fans. In general (and I dont want to appear rude, but i know I am) they know absolutely naff all about the game and it was really quite embarrassing listening to some of the comments from them. One or two did seem to understand the game so had a decent chat with them during the game about it.
As for Green, cant deny that he made a massive error in probably the biggest game of his career to date. But, that doesnt make him a bad keeper. Personally before the tournament started I would have gone for James in goal. I wouldnt pick Hart as he hasnt the experience, and would have only gone with him in the 3rd group game had we won our opening 2 and were safely through. As for the Algeria game I dont what Capello will do but wouldnt be surprised if he stuck with Green.
That made me chuckle - I imagine you like "im a laaaandoner" Danny Dyer type :rotfl: I mean that in a nice way!
Im torn with the football - im a Scot in Sheffield married to a Northener - supporting England this year in absense of Scotland!
Can I ask what camera you had Westhamdaz? That city centre pics was awesome, and i love the panoramic effects - i was playing about with a H series Sony in a shop the other day and was very tempted - be interested to know what you where using. Look forward to your trip report0 -
SeptemberHi!....Long term lurker, first time posting.....
For those of you pricing flights, try looking at the UK-LA. I'm flying out from Heathrow (from Edinburgh first) to LAX with Virgin for £510 (September). I'm doing a mini tour of LA then San Diego before flying to Vegas. I booked flights to and from Vegas for about £40 a pop with Southwest Air, I was quoted around £750 direct from Manchester roughly when I booked.
Just something to bear in mind
Oh, and this is my first trip solo so nervous but also looking forward to it at the same time. Booked a room at the Mirage (stayed there last year and loved it) but I'm awfully tempted by the bungalow offer for the MGM Grand for roughly the same price. But due to the ideal location of the Mirage, I'll probably stick with that.0 -
AugustOh Dear.......Just been looking at the Mandalay Bay app on my ipod, and it says that the Miss Universe contest is being shown live from the hotel on 23rd August, the day we arrive.Don't think I will bother trying to get a room upgrade anymore, I think they will all be taken by all the pretty young things.;)0
