hi all
thanks for all your help so far in choosing a hotel. i went away and investigated the hotels you all suggested but since having my baby ive become unable to make a decision so im still not sure. am driving my other half mad as spend all night online researching it all lol!!
i think monte carlo is the fav as the right price for us and central but have some reviews saying its furthwr away than you think from the action and that the building work next door (is that still on?) is a nightmare as dust, dirt and noise ruin the stay
i would LOVE to go to the venetian even in all its tacky glory but i have read many reviews saying they pump an old womens perfume smell through the aircon really strongly and the rooms are tired looking!!
i do try to take reviews with a pinch of salt as what one person likes another may hate but it is always a little concerning when the same comments come up again and agin on different sites and different people.
any ideas if these comments are true or not? the last two im considering are nyny and paris.
its soooooo difficult when we dont have a lot of money and this is gonna be our only special holiday away (a break from the baby too) for a long long time so in case u think im neurotic i just want it to be so special.
p.s now our wedding plans here are potentially falling through im thinking of having a wedding there instead just us two - is that the done thing in the hotels or are u expected to have guests? i know the chapels etc do ceremonies for two but was wondering where would be nice and not awkward?
i know im really demanding of all ur knowledge!!! sorry
kate
Hi Kate,
I got married at Viva Las Vegas Weddings in November last year! It was just the two of us and it was ace!
We paid for 2 weeks at the Strat, but booked 2 nights in the Monte Carlo for the wedding night and the night after. It was truly fabulous! When we went to the Monte Carlo, we just left all our stuff at the Strat and took a few essentials and a couple of changes of clothes. If we forgot anything, it was only a bus ride away! It was just easier to pay for 2 cheap nights at the Strat while we wern't using it, and not have to empty the room of all our belongings.
At the Monte Carlo, we had a Celebrity Spa Suite and it was fuggin' amazing! A big jacuzzi right next to the bed, strip view, seperate bathroom (with a safe in the bathroom!), a mini bar in the room...it felt like we'd won the lottery! It might not meet everybody's expectations for its casino, location etc, but we loved it!. We're going back again next year, we're deffo having a few more nights in a Celebrity Spa Suite again. Have a look at their site. For me, as long as the room is clean and spacious, I'm happy as the room is for sleeping in (!) and we're out and about enjoying ourselves for the other 17 hours of the day!
I can honestly say, dust and noise is most certainly NOT an issue if you're at the Monte Carlo.
One thing I would suggest if you do stop at the Strat is to buy a monthly ticket for the Deuce ($55 or $60 I think). This works out cheaper than the daily, weekly etc tickets. You can get the monthly ticket from outside Circus Circus (well...just to the right of it actually). The monthly tickets are not available from the bus divers. Don't let catching a bus put you off, we had a great time there and your situation sounds similar to ours.
We didn't spend much time down Freemont street the 1st time we went, but seemed to spend a lot more time there this time around (99c margaritas, $2 bottled beer, $8 steak, $6 big fat cigars!!). We also went to the Palms to go to the cinema a few times, to Hooters to watch a $7 Todd Paul comedy show...v v funny btw, plus we went off strip to Wal-Mart, the Beltz several times (which isn't called that anymore), the marriage license beurau a couple of times, past Mandalay Bay to the Las Vegas sign.....you get the idea. What I'm saying is, we used the Deuce a lot more than we did last time, and a lot more than we thought we would!
pm me if you wanna know anything in more detail...I'll gladly help0 -

MarchI love the cinema at the Palms -we've done IMAX movies a few times there-Harry Potter, Batman , Willy Wonka etc
Good value and I like the food choices and casino there too.
Yes it's off Strip but the free shuttle from Bills to the Gold Coast opposite works fine-you just get off -cross the road and you're there.
Personally I think the Orleans or Gold Coast are better options than the Strat. Yes they are off Strip but it's quicker on the (free) shuttle to mid Strip from either than it is from the Strat using the Deuce (which of course you need to pay for and it stops endlessly). Really good food choices and prices too especially at the Orleans.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

with the new Ace (i.e. express) bus route it might be less of a hassle getting from the Strat to other places than on the Deuce because it stops far, far fewer times.

Having flat out refused to set foot on a Deuce due to all the stories of the crowds and the long journey times, we found the Ace to be a great option when we wanted to go downtown. Previously we had driven if during the day and taken a taxi at night...we wanted to go downtown for dinner and really didn't want to pay the nearly $50 including tip it's cost us for a return journey before...and when we read about the Ace here, we thought we would give it a try and it was great.
Also, depending on how long someone is staying, I'm not sure a monthly ticket makes sense...a 5-day ticket is $20...30 day is $65...so unless you're staying more than 15 days, it seems that 5-day tickets work out best.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Does anyone know if you can you buy the 5 day passes at the strip vending machines?Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.0
