Frogs Matzo-ball Soup Trip 2009
20 Dec
Arrived Gatwick to a four hour VS delay due to the snow over the past few days. Seats as usual ie uncomfortable. IFE films didnt match the booklet, and couldnt here the announcement as it was too faint, so had no idea what films were on which channel.
Picked up car at Rentacenter, and arrived at Signature at 8pm. Bit bizarre that you dont know the tower before arrival as each one has a separate entrance. Took a chance that they had given me room as per booking instructions......and they had!!! Tower one high strip view.....thatll do nicely. Floor 28 is the top of the normal floors, with penthouse floors above. Only about 20 rooms per floor. Has optional external double doors as on cruise ships to join adjacent rooms.
They told us about our "package" when we checked in, ie the $300 food credit usable in MGM owned restaurants only......thats not what the website says, but couldnt be bothered arguing about it. Valet parking only there......but I can tell you its the best series of $2 tips Ive ever spent.
Gave us voucher for $5 off all MGM buffets, 2-4-1 entrees at MGM Italian restaurant, and other bits and pieces.
FYI in room wifi is included in the Resort fee, but not use of the puter on the telly in the room. I used my iPod Touch. Also included is the gym.....more of a room than a gym, but quite big, and decent machines (so Mrs Frog tells me). Theres one gym in each tower, and one pool for each tower, although only T2 pool open in winter.
Junior Suite well big enough - decent area for sofa, table, desk. Kitchenette with toaster, microwave, hob, cutlery, fridge. Oversized bath with bubbles, huge shower, double marble sinks. Very comfy huge bed. Room very tastefully decorated. Didnt see any other guests all week, and no noise at all from other rooms.
21 Dec
Had brekkie in MGM buffet - for ten bucks each, its a bargain. Drove to Walmart on Charleston to stock up on brekkie for the rest of the trip......as we generally awoke at 4am-ish, its nice to make a cuppa, have a toasted croissant, and some grapefruit juice in room without having to shlep to the MGM.
Unloaded car and went to MGM for 11am poker - about 6 tables is normal.....$65. Although Signature is linked to MGM, ITS A VERY LONG WAY. Even with the airport type moving walkways. Crashed and burnt with a king hi str8 to an ace hi str8 in 12th.
Afternoon went with Mrs F to Aria - from the Siggy, go out the main entrance and turn left, rather than go thru the MGM - saves about half an hour. Aria all rather random....shapes, angles etc. Casino was pleasant enough.....still many shops yet to open. Has a rather bizarre taxi/valet drop off entrance on the floor above ground level.
Had bowl of matzo-ball soup at Studio Cafe in MGM as knackered and had an early night.
22 Dec
Woke 1amHad breakfast in room and watched telly and messed around for a few hours....and spoke to the tadpoles.
As Im an internet retailing professional, I had arranged to spend the morning at Zappos.com who are in Henderson....dropped Mrs F at the Outlet mall near the airport, and had a very interesting morning there.
Got back in time to go to the Hard Rock Hotel (despite looking near on maps, its wayyyyy to far to walk) for 1pm Poker, preceeded by bowl of matzo-ball soup for lunch. Not may entries, and wasnt much of a game. Was unlucky....went out with QQ and an open-ended str8 draw and a flush draw versus two pair......I had represented a strong hand and he really shouldnt have called with only a pair on the flop.
Got back to meet Mrs at hotel and we went to the Fashion Show Mall.....bought loads of Abercrombie for the tadpoles, and a ballgown for Mrs F from Jessica McClintock, with a 15% off voucher in the FSM discount booklet.
Not very hungry so we had salt-beef sandwich and matzo-ball soup at the Stage Deli in MGM by the Sportsbook.
Again glad no show booked tonight as very tired thru lack of sleep.
23 Dec
Woke up 2am so early breakfast and rang the kids. Mrs F having microwaved bowl of oats and skimmed milk, with tinned peaches, pears and some yoghurt.
Spend the morning at the Fashion Outlet Mall in Primm - loads of bargain Hollister stuff for Mrs and the kids.....she fitted in an XL kids size same as my kids (11 and 13) so even more of a bargain.
Also went to the Juicy Couture for bag and purse for little one.
Played Poker in Caesars......my favourite poker room, but didnt play well, didnt get cards, didnt have any luck.
Evening went to Fiamma in MGM (Italian)......was very fussy food and didnt really enjoy the meal there.
24 Dec
Had a lay-in......up at 4.30am!!! Went to Premium Outlet Mall up on Charleston. More bags to carry to the car......btw travelled out with one case inside the other as Virgin still had the two case limit.......now only one case.
Stopped at the Tix by the Peppermill to get Jersey Boys tickets on way back. Parked at Palazzo, dropped Mrs at FSM and I walked to TI for matzo-ball soup lunch and 2pm poker. Ended in fifth place, got turned over by a bad beat on the river.
Had dinner in Grand Lux, then on to Jersey Boys.....ab fab....really enjoyed it......didnt know the story at all beforehand but obviously recognised all the music.
Dec 25 Xmas Day
Booked for Zumanity at NYNY and played the 11am Poker at MGM. Came 8th of 70, two places off cashing. Back to room, walked to Miracle Mile shops (use Signature main gate), and had the MGM buffet dinner.
On to Zumanity.....what utter dross. Nuff said.
Dec 26
Dropped Mrs at FSM and back to MGM for 11am Poker. KJ turned over by K9. Did more stuff but obviously did not write any of it down!!!
Dec 27
Checked out and spent the morning at Town Square mall - never been there before but again Mrs managed to fill a few more bags. Stopped at the Las Vegas Sign for photo opportunity......they now have a car park there so you dont have to run across the road.
Dropped off car at Rentacenter and flight home delayed by a couple of hours. Had previously reserved two of the four seats on back row, but as rest of row was unsold, was able to lie across all seats and get some decent sleep.
Only drove down the strip and its traffic jams once......went to everywhere via Koval which runs parallel to the strip.......love that road!!!illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Aprilhi has anyone been to see O at the Bellagio who can advise on the best seats. We can get the front row (very front) is this too close? I ask as we sat further back for KA given the type of show
I think front row is too close for any Cirque show...the front row at O is also a splash zone (though I don't think you will get very wet).Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

AprilFrogs Matzo-ball Soup Trip 2009
Thanks for the report - loved reading it. I was starting to wonder about the matzo-ball soup obsession, though. We also normally go with a case in a case and come back with the second one full. Still trying to work out if a) we will pack less in one case each or b) just deal with the fee for one of us to have a 2nd case. I think we may go with b.

Did the guy on the main gate not tell you what tower you were in?
Has Tower 2 now got a gym also?0
