MayBrief review of our meal at Alize for Gracie.
We went up to Alize on the 56th floor at 7.30 and were seated right away even though we were half an hour early. We were seated next to the window with great views of Vegas.
I had the peppercorn crusted Filet Mignon with a cognac sauce, but asked for it without peppercorns, OH had rib eye which he said was even better than my filet. Had beignets for dessert, 2 glasses of Reisling and 2 coffees. The glass of wine was only half full and I wondered where the rest of it was.
I had an $80 Groupon certificate that I bought for $40. That was a real bonus as I had booked Alize a couple of weeks before the certificate became available.
At the end they brought out 2 chocolate truffles and a chocolate dipped strawberry with a raspberry, blueberry and blackberry with a candle for my birthday.
Service was immpecable with several waiter checking on us without being intrusive. When you moved to go to the restroom your serviette was re-folded on the table and then they replaced it on your lap.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the whole experience and I would highly recommend it for a special occasion.
Thanks Luci sounds lovely I can't wait to go now and feel happy going now I know you have recommended it so highly0 -
MayJust been to Stripsteak tonight which is on a par pricewise with Alize. However it wasn't a patch on Alize as regards service and ambience.
I found it very noisy and it's not the place for a romantic meal. We were fairly impressed with the food and the service right until the end.
However we ordered 2 coffees which took ages to arrive. We were never offered a refill and it was only small cups. I was shocked when they charged $10 for the 2 cups. Alize was only $6.
** Edit - Just remembered. Stripsteak isn't really on a par pricewise with Alize.
At Alize there was a small amount of accompaniments with the entree such as croquettes. Very nouvelle cuisine.
At Stripsteak the sides were extra at $8-16 each.0 -

(only $40k a night!!!)The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
MayJust as heads up for anyone who uses a Nationwide credit card abroad.
My credit card was declined at a jewellers at the outlets on Tuesday, but the assistant called Visa (it must have said to on his screen) and the transaction went through OK without them even talking to me. I then used it again no problem.
That evening it was declined again at HHAGG and fortunately I had cash to pay the bill, although I did also have my debit card on me.
I called the Nationwide to be told that the card was blocked and that I should have told them I was going abroad.
I told them that it says on their website NOT to call them if you are going abroad, but apparently this has recently changed. However I have since checked their website and it still states NOT to call them.
I think I will be calling them in future, if I remember, just to save the inconvenience.
I asked if it was the same for the debit card, but had to call a different number for that. They said I don't need to advise them re the debit card.0 -

I had exactly the same issue last October, on both mine and my wife's cards (separate accounts). Despite the website making it clear that you didn't have to phone, they decided that the transactions were questionable (Walmart!), so stopped both cards, leaving messages on our home phone for us to contact them.
After long (30 minute plus) waits for customer service, I couldn't get through, so luckily used a different set of cards, but it was extremely inconvenient!Andy Corbett0 -
MarchNatWest don't accept advance notification you'll be using the card abroad and Vegas is one of those places they always block. The most annoying thing is that the phone agents can't see the block so tell you the card isn't blocked -when it is. I've learned now to say I want to talk to their irregular transaction dept anyway-who can never understand why the agent can't see it.
My favourite idiotic block was when I booked an award ticket with Delta by phone-it showed up as a transaction in Atlanta -so my next transaction-at my local corner shop I use the card at often and is in my home postcode -They blocked....."Because you were in Atlanta" <sigh>I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0
