When I was there in May I hadn't really thought about photo ID for using my credit card. I had my Costco membership card and never once was it refused or even queried!!:rotfl:

Really? That's a handy tip. I'm a bit sad but I really want to go to a Costco in Vegas to see what kind of stuff they have. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

My wife too - she fell in love with the idea when she saw the website for the USA stores -it was all the discussions about their survival rations and the coffins:rotfl::rotfl:

Take a look at the USA website and link to the particular stores. It seems there are two stores in Vegas, one seems to be a much bigger one. Will find out in a little over a week

That one didn't work. They arrive late on Saturday night so as long as it is safe they aren't too bothered where they end up. Somewhere near the airport might be ok too, I guess.

What do you mean it didnt work?

We had almost decided on spending the first six nights of our Vegas trip at Imperial Palace and the last four at MGM Grand but we are now toying with the idea of moving Downtown for the Friday and Saturday nights, as the weekend rates are much cheaper than on the Strip. I have seen an offer on the i4vegas website with 40% off the price at Fitzgeralds Hotel, making it only $35 per night. Have any of you stayed on Fremont St and in particular at Fitzgeralds?

Freemont St area was the only time I didnt feel 100% safe in Vegas, eg walking to/from carparks.

You know we were discussing either to opt for the Encore or Platinum at about $150 cheaper. Well the Platinum wins. Encore is a cracking place and if anyone was to tell me that one day I would be passing up a fantastic deal with them I would say they were mad, but after discussion we can't pass up The Platinum. Just too many pluses, quiet non smoking suites with full balcony and furniture, just right for enjoying breakfast of OJ and muffins that can be kept in the FULL SIZE FRIDGE. Free WiFi, Gym, bottle of wine, the feeling of personal service where the doormen know your name, full kitchen so that we don't have to eat out all the time. If we are lucky we might even get a suite with a washing machine. Really nice pool with attendants and all of the posh double beds are for everyone's use. All the free extras that would mount up at Encore (example fridge $25 a day). The only downside is having to get in the car every night to go out, but we would be doing that anyway cause Tracy likes PlanetHo and I like Bellagio and Paris, and Encore has the best pool we have been to.
The place isn't for everyone, if it's your first time or near enough I would say stay on the Strip, but it isn't about that for us anymore, it's about getting the nicest room we can for our dollar, and you would be very hard pressed to beat the Platinum for that, AFAIK only The Signatue comes close.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Grr...Had MGM Grand booked end of August 6 nights - 2 rooms (2 and a 3), however somebody else has come onboard so I just cancelled the old deal and instead opted for the Crazy 8's (better deal). Now, same time, 3 rooms (2/2/2), however my Visa Debit card keeps getting declined (don't own a CC). Now I booked the previous two rooms fine with the same card, but it won't let me book these three rooms?!?!

I'm guessing I am going to have to ring the MGM:

    General Phone Number for Reservations
    877-880-0880 or 702-891-7777

But how much will this cost from a BT Landline? I'm guessing around £48 a minute... :(

Downtown isn't for everyone. We won't stay there, did once for one night in the California and never again. Depends what type of person you are, DT is more old Vegas in that the casinos are older and gambling cheaper, but it does attract a certain type of clientele in general, more the fanny pack and shorts brigade, nothing wrong with that but just not for us. If money is the sole purpose then DT is the place to go.
