First Direct gets my vote too, although very annoying when I get kicked out of internet banking when trying to cancel or amend standing order. Their telephone service is very good and most of their staff actually give the impression they like their job.

Was with HSBC before and the overseas call centres drove me mad, plus the branch in Leicester city centre won't allow you to use th counter service upstairs and always insist you use the paying in machines.

I have another account with Nationwide just for holidays and their service is very hit and miss. Thier telephone banking service is the worst ever. Who ever heard of a service where they won't allow you to set up payments over the phone? With them you have to set it all up in a branch or online.

They even took a charge off me last year!

Another vote for HSBC. I too have been with them since the days of griffin saver and Midland bank. Although not good for savings, I have always been happy with their customer service and ease in contacting them.

Had one occassion of fraud on my card after buying something through Paypal. HSBC refunded straight away whilst investigating, I have known people to spend extra on insurance to cover this, but still have to wait until after an investigation has taken place.

Do have accounts with A&L for saving (not overly impressed with service) and Tesco for credit card (okay, no issues)
  • we have 2 really nice staff members at my local bank, trouble is counter waiting is anything up to half an hour, reception desk is permanantly unmanned and on the one occasion i met the new bank manager (she was almost shouting at someone with not very good english) i found her to be the most rude, stuck up battleaxe i have ever had the displeasure to have to deal with.

rbs are a bit snotty, my mum is self employed so if i have a day off i do errands for her, i usually hand in a bill to pay in the name of 'mrs ----' and they ask in a snotty tone 'do you bank with us' to which i reply 'my mum does its her bill'
    they go quiet then :D
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

all your base are belong to us

Been with First Direct for about 15 years and have no complaints. Easy to use online, good secirity etc. The only minor niggle is that their savngs rattes are awful!!

Totally agreee with the savings rates. The Regular saver is very good but why do they have to keep bringing out new ISA rates at 2.5 % - 3% just for new customers while exisitng ones get 0.2%?

Apart from the regular saver I no longer have any other savings with them.

    Again, First Direct are excellent.
    Notice a pattern emerging here...?
