is anyone happy with their bank?

cos i am sick to the back teeth of mine
i had £20 less given to me by an atm than i should have done, ok they said check it at an atm after 24 hours- they wont install one of theirs within 5 miles of me so i have to use their phone bank service, which i cant use as the registration number i have doesnt work and without that you either cant speak to anyone or anyone you do speak to wont help you. i'm eventually getting one sent out (after 20 minutes of asking). they now want me to go to an atm after 7pm tonight so its exactly 24 hours since the transaction- yes 7pm new years eve (cos i have nothing better to do).
is there such a thing as a good bank?

Not a good experience there!!
On another note I have been quite pleased with Lloyds TSB. Find them really helpful when I have had need to speak to them.0 -
I have to say that I am perfectly happy with HSBC. I've been with them since the days of Midland Bank - I'm one of the original Griffin Savers (still got the bag !). If you read posts on here about every bank - there will be somebody not happy with them, that's life I'm afraid.
I've never had my personal current account or my business account with anybody else. Some may call me a fool etc but as a small business person I would always be cautious of doing dealings with an individual/business who is constantly moving banks.
I can only speak from my experience, HSBC have been great - and when I compare them with friends and family who bank elsewhere then they seem to stack up very well. Call me old fashioned but I am still dubious of the buliding societies who have turned banks, I have friends who bank with them ( Halifax, Abbey, A&L etc) and although they offer better rates of interest or offers they don't seem to offer a good service like the old banks do. This is only my opinion based on my dealings with HSBC and my friends dealings with the other banks.
I'm aware that other people will disagree with me0 -
Have been with NatWest since 1979 and have had no reason to complain or change.

I'm incredibly "Meh" with all 3 of mine (LTSB, Nationwide and Abbey)I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Been with Lloyds since 1988. I'm very happy with them.
That said, what they have done to some of their branches is awful. They have turned all that lovely wood panelling into something that resembles an open plan temporary pound shop. The free standing service points are confusing and awkward (anyone been in Lloyds, Gentlemans Walk Norwich branch will know exactly what I mean).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I think part of it depends on the staff in your local branch...I'm massively happy with Barclays...can't stand my A+L account and will probably be changing it soon...to what, I don't entirely know yet (I think quidco might determine that one!). But all the staff at my branch are so so helpful...whereas bf is with Natwest, and one of his local branches has no counter service, and it's in the middle of Nottingham!
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time0 -
Firstdirect all the way for me too, I recommend them to everyone I know who moans about their bank.
I also got on well with HSBC too, had my student account with them when no one else would help me in a situation that was pretty desperate and stayed with them for years until we decided to try A&L because they had an offer on.
Gradually got more and more annoyed with A&L, and then went with Firstdirect about 18 months ago because I had heard great reviews plus they gave me £100 and a small interest free overdraft.
very happy with all aspects of Firstdirect, and their account switching service was brilliant (unlike A&L's which was crap!)0 -
Another vote for First Direct. Weekly text messages let me keep track of my balance, there's always someone at the end of the phone - even midnight on holidays - and I've found their fraud security procedures to be really very good, in that when they thought someone may have my card, they phoned me on my mobile to check all was well.
Been with them since 1992 - wouldn't change.
