Hi all, thought I would join in this thread if that's ok.

I'm only 4+4 so early days, but if everything goes as planned, I will be a stay at home mum working from home.

I wondered if anyone has any tips for juggling a newborn with a new freelance business?
I am hoping to make a start on things in the next week or so, once I feel a bit more human.
So, hopefully things will be going well etc before bubs is born, but would like anyone's similar experiences of how to cope with motivation etc with a potentially restless baby! Oh and the 'small' factor of fitting in housework as well :rotfl:
  • And me....if thats ok....thought i'd ask if i could join too? I am a SAHM, have a nearly 4yr old DD and one on the way very soon :)

Needing a bit of motivation to keep me going at the mo...it's far too easy to slip into not doing much daily.

    Welcome digitalphase and my_gorgeous_ellie-belle!

House hunting not going well, looking very unlikely that we will be moving by the end of our tenancy... but letting agent has said we are in no rush. Just want to know when we're moving so I can pack!

Car failed it's mot retest too, I thought I'd got away with it only costing £40 to fix but now had to buy a catalytic converter for it (£50) and we aren't even sure that's it... will find out after 2nd retest Thursday...

Kids are being even more difficult to get to sleep now the clocks have changed, put them to bed at 6pm and they aren't asleep before 8pm. Think I may start putting them to bed at 7pm now it's lighter in the evenings. They mostly read in bed until around 7 anyway though so I'm not sure...

MSD - It taked me ages longer to shop online too, but is easier than dragging bump/baby along with you!

Hello everyone - *deep breath* - life seems to be a bit on the upswing and I'm feeling a bit less like a "scary PND lady" and more human finally! So I'm stepping back into the thread and pushing myself to get back to functional level again.

DH's work hours are less starting next week; he requested a bit of a cut in hours due to me having problems with PND and diverticular disease. Between those things and lack of sleep from the boys, I was rapidly falling apart. Just that little light at the end of the tunnel makes me feel like I am pulling together a bit more.

We've managed to get DS3 to join DS2's 6pm bedtime, so both boys are in bed at 6pm each evening. He still is waking in the middle of the night (about 2 or 3 am) for a bottle, but he's starting to go right back to sleep afterwards, so it's not so tough on my sleep. The insomnia I was having is getting slightly better, so that helps as well.

We're starting our garden, gaining control of the household stuff, and generally trying to declutter (doing a carboot sale in a few weeks). Feeling like we're regaining control of things is helping me a lot.

No list today, as it's evening and relaxation time.

Hope everyone is doing well. Welcome to the newbies that have joined!

  • digitalphase - hi and welcome. I would like to start my own freelance business at some point as I have a design degree that of course I am not currently using, but have no time at the minute. I think it depends how organised you are/ nature of the business etc to how easy it can be with a little one at home.

my_gorgeous_ellie-belle - hi and welcome. I am due a week after you :D I need lots of motivation to do stuff at the mo too. I get so annoyed that everything is more difficult - just picking up toys off the floor is a major job at the mo :rotfl:I just can not bend! I need to take some boxes upstairs but they are too heavy for me so I will have to wait until dh home tonight. It gets so frustrating! I am hoping my baby comes in May because ds came at 37 weeks weighing a really good weight.

Ragz - hope car passes today.

Triggles - glad you are feeling better and glad your dh is helping with his hours at work.

    Sillybillyme - welcome back

Well, I need to get off my bum and do something. I ended up not doing an on line shop cos when I came to do it all the suitable slots for the day I wanted had gone :( I should have booked a slot earlier in the day and saved it, then updated my shopping list later on. Is this what everyone else does?? I have only done it a few times. So I made the shopping trip a bit more enjoyable for ds and I by going to the farm shop for veg/fruit etc cos ds loves it there. Then I did quick dash round supermarket for essentials we needed. I then popped into Asda on my own yesterday after m/w appointment because ds was with grandparents and grabbed boxes of nappies, loads of offers etc. so it spread it out a bit. I prefer that.

It seems to be easier to get rid of a broken washing machine than a working TV on freegle :rotfl:???!! Need to e-mail people back about that so they can collect tomorrow while we wait in for new one to come :D Then I need to do a weeks worth of washing :o

Oh...I thought of a tip for you all with small kids yesterday (I think I originally got the idea from this site but can't remember) ...if you have stale bread break it up into small pieces and pop it in a freezer bag/back in bread bag and then pop it in the freezer. You can get it out when you are going to visit the park and it is ready for lo to feed the ducks. I put some in my freezer yesterday cos it had gone stale quicker than it should have and thought I would pass tip on (you prob all do it - but just in case).

    my list:
    Tidy up
    clean/mop floor
    make easter cards with ds
clean again after craft with ds :rotfl:
ask dh to take boxes upstairs
    reply to freegle e-mails
make sure hallway/porch clear for washing machine delivery

Triggles - great to see you back and feeling a bit more positive hun xx
You say your littlest goes to bed at 6 (same as mine do!) and wakes at 2-3am? Have you tried waking him for his bottle before you go to bed? My 8 week old goes to bed at 6/7pm and sleeps until I wake her up at 11 or 12 for her last feed, then sleeps through until 6/7am (Unusual for young breastfed babies and I certainly didn't get it this easy with my boys!) It's worth a try if t gives you a full night's sleep.

Car failed mot restest and requiers a full test again now, another £50. Have had to buy a new catalytic converter and will also need Lambda sensor and head gaskets (though not for mot). Was begrugding ituntil I drove Dh's tractor/tank this evening and realised why I love my own car so much! It took me several minutes to get the thing out of the drive...

Sorted out the toy boxes today, all 6 of them! only managed to bin a carrier bag of broken ones and freecycle a bag of blocks, but it's something and one step closer to packing! (Bot that we have a house yet!)

  • Hi all. Hope you all had good easter weekends and for those of you with school age children, hope the holidays are going well.

Well my house is a bit of a mess and I need to sort it out a bit this afternoon but I have managed to get rid of the TV on freegle after posting it again. We got the baby clothes out and I have washed, dryed, ironed and put them away in babys room. I got stuff for my hospital bag so I can sort that out.

I need to run round and do some jobs round the house now.
