I'd want to wait at least 2 weeks, so middle or end of next week? However it all depends on how long the buyer is willing to wait of course
As it's a low-value CD, I will ask them to contact me next Thursday if the item hasn't arrived, so I'm guessing I will get a email regardless if the items arrives or not asking for a refund.
How long is it these days a seller has to wait before trying to claim from Royal Mail for international items?0 -

25 (working) days unfortunately.

How soon after posting should I consider an International items to be lost?
Please wait 25 days before submitting a claim for loss of an international item. This is to allow time for an item to be delivered overseas - it may have been held at a local delivery office in the destination country and be waiting for collection or redelivery if no one was at home to accept the item when delivery was initially attempted. Or the item may not have been delivered for some reason in which case it will be returned to the sender in the UK. Royal Mail does however require you to submit your claim form within 6 months from the date the item was posted.
and also note this which I have never actually noticed before:
Will I have my posting cost refunded?
Royal Mail will only return the cost of postage on our two priority international services: International Signed For & Airsure. With other international services such as Airmail and Surface Mail, only the cost of the contents of the item is refunded.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How long would you say to wait to a buyer from Japan whom purchased a CD from myself last Wednesday (5th) which was posted on the 6th via Airmail before assuming it's lost in the post and issuing a refund?
As Soolin has said Royal Mail allow 25 days so I would tell the buyer there is nothing you can do until 25 days has past only, if it has still not arrived then you will issue a full refund.
Has the buyer contacted you asking where their CD is already, have they no patience it's coming from the UK. :eek:0 -

Hi everyone, been a while since I last posted here, but I really don't sell much on Amazon these days (although I have just had a selling flurry of 2 books this week, LOL!)
Inspired by this, was going to list some more books, only to find out that many are not listed on Amazon, and I'm obviously not a Pro so can't add them to the cataogue. What I was thinking, is would it be possible to get the Pro membership for just one month and then cancel it, and list lots of stuff during that month that would hopefully make me my £28 or whatever... Hmm, not sure!0 -

I received an email yesterday asking where the item is
It's low-value, and although they can't make a claim with amazon until the last day of the estimated delivery date they can still leave negative feedback, so I might as well refund them and claim the money back from the Royal Mail.0 -
Unfortunately of course RM do not control the distance selling regulations so on most sites the buyer will have received a refund long before then.
Everything related to international mail is controlled by International Law with the backing of the United Nations. As a buyer I respect this.
Do distance selling regulations apply internationally - which countries have signed international agreements? I brought something from the US and was sent the wrong item but I assumed they did not apply.0 -

Amazon, on the other hand, may apply stricter rules to sales from their site which add protection over and above that guaranteed by law."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Do they apply cross broader within the EU or are they only implemented locally by each member state?0
-
No, they don't apply outside the EU.

That they do, I've just checked seller help and it says:
International shipments
International shipments should arrive within 3 and 12 business days for deliveries in Europe, 6 to 10 business days for deliveries in North America and Japan, and between 8 and 12 business days for deliveries in other countries. If you are posting overseas, you must use Airmail.
Given the well known problems with US Customs at the moment I suspect a lot of items going to the USA will be over that limit and as always it's the seller who loses out.0
