• I thought I read that the buyer had to contact me within 7 or 14 days to be eligible for a refund and I also have to receive the item back within 30 days. I think it has been 20 days since the item should have been received. I may have read it wrong though because there are different confusing rules for chargebacks and claiming via Amazon a-z guarantee and refunds:(

Hello again!!! Anyone available to give me an opinion on my dilemma (see a few posts up) as according to the Amazon bumph I could understand it says to give the seller at least 3 days to get things "sorted" and so I could do with telling my "buyer" what to do tonight if at all possible!!!

Hey everyone, hope sales are booming. I'm back with another dilemma:(. I sold this item on Jan 12th,it was posted on the 13th First Class so estimated date of delivery according to Amazon was 14th Jan. The buyer emailed yesterday as follows... "Hi
I purchased a DVD from you on the 12th January. Unfortunately this DVD is scratched and therefore faulty. Please can you advise me on your returns policy. I would still like a copy of this DVD and would be willing to accept a replacement."

Now I KNOW it wasn't scratched so this seems to be an attempt at avoiding to pay and I reckon she'll have made a copy. The Amazon guide to returns is as clear as mud to my poorly brain but it seems the rules are different for DVDs and books. Where do I stand with this??? I know mostly we have to put up and shut up and accept the item back and refund. Do people generally avoid selling DVDs because of the risk of buyers copying them and attempting to return them?

Amazon don't make it easy and even if you do find the rules they often change them on you anyway.

The buyer in this instance can do an A-Z claim if you don't refund.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=3149571&#damaged

There ar elots of reasons for a return including the following:

    • Item defective during first use: When you tried to first use the product, it did not work (e.g., HDTV did not turn on).
    • Item defective after first use: The product did not work or was broken on second or subsequent use.
    • Damaged item: The item delivered was visibly damaged (e.g. Plastic storage you ordered had chipped pieces).
When submitting an A-to-z Guarantee claim with the reason "order contained damaged/defective/incorrect items," you will need to select one of the reasons above and provide comments explaining what happened.

On a different bit of the help site it says:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161010

If you receive an item that is different to what was described, or that is clearly in worse condition than indicated, please contact your seller directly to report the defect or damage within 14 days of receiving the shipment.

which could then be considered contradicted on the same page a few lines down as it says:

Where you are withdrawing from your purchase between 7 and 30 days after delivery (or between 7 and 14 days in the case of items) and there has been no error on the seller's part, the seller is only required to refund the cost of the item. Please note that, with respect to returns initiated during the period between 7 and 30 days after delivery (or between 7 and 14 days in the case of large items), sellers are not required to refund the cost of giftwrapping, delivery or other services provided to you in connection with your purchase. If you use a personalised pre-paid return label, the seller will be entitled to deduct the return postage from your overall refund.

I'd be inclined to phone customer services to ask them, but I would also expect to be told that a return and a refund should be actioned

I always find it odd that we get hundreds of threads moaning about ebay policies and yet I find Amazon much more difficult as their policies are so contradictory.

I agree, at least eBay stick to their rules and tell you about them when they change them (which is often)

  • Hi all

I was thinking of doing a little bit of buying and selling, just as a hobby.

Am i better to get registered as self employed even if i don't intend to make much money or can you wait until you make a certain amount? (I work full time)

If i have to become registered how do i prove purchases without a receipt (car boot sales)

Apologies if this has all been gone over before

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi all,
I've been selling books on Amazon for past year and normally have anything between 300-500 listed at one time. Although I sell quite a few books on a regular basis I've noticed some sellers have unbelievable feedback scores suggesting they must sell hundreds everyday. I appreciate they will have lots more books listed than me but I was wondering if they sell in a different way to the rest of us i.e other than an individual seller or pro merchant? Do they list differently etc.. so their books are viewed before anyone else's? Just seems strange how they can sell as many as the feedback scores indicate.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.
