There are warehouse shippers on Amazon with stocks in the hundreds of thousands, even some of the smaller businesses on Amazon that chat on the seller boards sell hundreds of books every single day. Last year one of the big sellers went broke and opened their warehouse for anyone to take what they wanted.

Just a name I can think of as selling on Amazon is here with a picture of their warehouse:

I am a tiny seller and sell around 50-70 books a month on average. Obviously am a pro merchant as that pays for itself once you sellmore than 30 books a month.

I am sorting through all my old CDS, most Ill just pass on to charity shop as don't seem to be worth a lot but I have some Paul Mckennas. One seems impossible to get hold of - There is a listing on Amazon but nothing available nor likely to be by the sounds of it. I don't want to be greedy but it seems about the only one out of the piles that might fetch a few quid but what to charge when there is no guide? even after googling (only someone trying to get hold of it came up) and checking Ebay. Also might it be better in this case to list on Ebay with a price I would be happy with and see if it fetches more ? i would prefer Amazon but....

Try doing a google search on it to see if any other sites have it,then if not maybe start it high on Amazon and slowly decrease the price every few weeks.

I suspect ebay may be slightly cheaper for fees overall, but you'll have to pay to list.

Hi Helsbells, Don't dismiss your older CD's just yet, I'm in the process of listing and selling my 70's, 80's and some early 90's CD's on Amazon. I'm able to put most of them in the 'Collectors' category as I'm finding that any that are currently for sale are re-mastered, so I put that in the condition notes. You can then pitch them for around about the 12-20 pound mark for a single disk album. I think my dearest is a double CD of pink Floyd's 'The Wall' at £60.

As for the Paul Mckenna Disk, is it a tie-up with a book title ? if so the book value might giver you a guide price. I assume you've looked everywhere for it including Play.com or Amazon.com ? Have you done an 'Advanced' Search' on Ebay (both .co.uk and .com) to see if any have been sold recently ? If you can't find it anywhere I'd do as Soolin says and start it fairly high, say 80-100 pounds and see if anyone bites.

    Good Luck.
  • ^ some cds, especially if they're out of print &/or limited/earlier editions (esp if they've got different artwork, mixes, &/or bonus tracks etc. to the versions that are easily available) can be worth a bit. Record Collector magazine and their book the Rare Record Price Guide include rare/collectable cd prices in their listings.

I just wanted to post another heartfelt thank you to everyone for the advice in this thread. My first book sold at the start of the thread, I'm now on about book 6. As I'm selling old textbooks etc, that I have in the house, this is a great result for me. I don't think ebay would have worked half as well., although I do prefer the greater control you have of auctions ending - I'm randomly surprised by my book sales and really curious as to why so many are late at night. I can only presume insomniac students believe that books will help them sleep :D

Thanks for helping me - I would never have thought of selling on amazon without reading here.

If you are reading this and wondering about selling your old books - go for it :)

Is anyone else having problems getting into the Amazon site?

I know my PC is clapped out and soon to be thrown from a conviently placed window but I can't actually get my selling account to load at all on Amazon at the moment. I need to get into it urgently as I've just sold a few books elsewhere and need to delist them. I also need to print out a despatch note for a sold item.

I've tried again and got in, so all is well.

I do hope they weren't 'improving' things again earlier.
