Hi Gin and tonic,
Are you following the instructions for double crochet in the magazine?
If you are then I think I may know where you are going wrong as it took me a while to figure it out...
When you do the first row of double crochet you do indeed go into the second chain.
However once you've turned the work and made your turning chain you need to go into the FIRST stitch of the last row (not the second).
Make sure you are going in the first stitch though and not the turning chain that you just made.
It's only for the very first row that you go into the second stitch.
Well I think this is right, that's what I've been doing and so far it's worked.
Hope this helps

Yeah I did although I lost the pattern about 3 rows in and loosely followed it after that to the best of my ability! lol. Pattern is here and she has lots of other Mario patterns which is good cause my oldest (and autistic) boy is Mario insane.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0 -
