Ive been considering whether to subscribe to the magazineor not.I was quite tempted by the freebies, but its still quite expensive to buy all of the issues, and then the binders on top of that. So ive decided to just have the first issue for 99p. Ive had to order it today from the newsagents, as its as rare as grit on the roads around here! lol.0

Hi sue please carry on with yours it looks lovely. Makes it look lovely with the cream around about it. I got my inspiration from Attic 24, you should check out her blog it is fab for lots of inspiration on colours. xxx
I`ve been crocheting for well over 20 years so have learnt loads along the way.
Hi bbabs, i really like the attic24 blog too. I dont know how she manages to do everything that she does though - makes me feel quite inadequate... lol!0 -
I have been crocheting since I was a teeenager started off doing granny squares and afghans. I`m working on a few things at the moment. Started this hexagon blanket about 6 months ago, after seeing attic24 blog. Love how they look but get a bit fed up working in the ends. Beware crochet is addictive................ and if your anything like me you get fed up with one project and before you know it you have about 4 things on the go at the same time xxxx
bbabs i really love that blanket, I'd to have a go, just wondered what type of yarn you used, I like the shiny effect!Addicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain0 -

I feel like I'm back to square one (pardon the pun!!) Husband bought me the Jan Eaton book for my birthday 200 different patterns for granny squares, its gorgeous just wish I new how to complete at least one of them!! Kazipoo was that pattern really that easy? Could you let me have the pattern my daughter would love a hat the same what size hook did you use? Bbabs what an inspiration thats just what I want to do some lovely throws for my caravan would be perfect but at the rate I'm learning they might must be ready for Christmas 2011!!!
I found it quite easy to do yes, but it seems like I have been doing a treble stitch rather than a double stitch. I thought it was a double, but it is an american double, which is our treble .
The stitch I used was.... wool over, hook through stitch, wool over, hook back through stitch, wool over, hook through first two loops, wool over, hook through last two loops, leaving you with one loop. Sounds complicated but it was really quite easy cos you have to take your wool over before you do anything lol.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
Thanks bbabs for pointing me to attic 24's blog. Her use of colour is amazing. That's it. I'm making hexagons tonight0

Me again, can someone give me some advice, I'm still practising my double crochet and I have 21 stitches to start with but I'm loosing a stitch each row. I add a stitch at the end of each row and then at the start of each row I go into the second chain. Where am I going wrong?? Thanks0

Hi luce181,
Thank you I used dmc cross stitch threads, used to do a lot of cross stitch and just thought the threads would look great crocheted. There is such a wide range of colours available and not too expensive.0 -
I got a book from the library yesterday on crocheting finger puppets and have now realised i cant do it after all! My squares are still very wonky and if anything have got worse - hmmm.
By the way love looking at all your pics, hopefully i may have something to display one day!0 -
ginandtonic1988 - I've had a quick look on the internet and found these instructions. I think the important bit is this: To begin the row of double crochet stitches you have to add extra chains in order to gain the added height. This makes a second chain, when the yarn is pulled up perpendicular to the base chain, called a turning chain. For double crochet, this should be three chains high. A turning chain is required at the beginning of each new row. Make sure to skip the first stitch at the base of a turning chain to keep from adding a stitch each time.
It sounds to me like you are not making a long enough turning chain. Heres the link to the whole article

Hope it helps0 -
Thanks SueB I will take a look at the link and try and get some more practising in before bedtime!!0
