If you got an old pillow/cushion use the stuffing there instead. If you are really savvy you can find that it is sometimes cheaper to buy pillows/cushions in a charity shop or in a sale than buying stuffing from a craft shop

poundland do pillows for £1 (obviously ) thats where i get all my stuffing from.

Sue - Thanks. Will have to do a more scary one before halloween to scare the kids!! :P only joking!!!!

I love that hat Sue. Cant wait to see your finished one.

Laura - any photos of the mouse?

If someone tells me how to post a pic i will but i warn you my mum said he looked like a tampon so hes not very good at all

what i do is upload a photo onto photobucket.com. then you go into the share bit and copy and paste the bit where it says forums and the picture comes up. someone who can explain it better will probably be along in a minute!!! i am useless at explaining stuff - even worse at directions!!!

    A tampon mouse!

    That's brilliant.

Oh girls we are doing so well!
    • We have a teddy unicorn that only got as far as the head stage before I gave up after developing a muscle strain trying to get the hook in!
    • A zombie teddy that would make small children and nervous adults wet themselves in fear.
    • A granny square that is currently the size of a football pitch.
    • A baby hat big enough to fit a fully grown adult
    • and now a tampon mouse
And are we enjoying ourselves? You bet we are!:j
I haven't had this much fun in ages.

By the way, did I miss anything off the list? We can add to it!
  • Hey again, thanks for the wool links :o)

In the middle of learning the double crochet stitch (think its going okay but we shall see!) The magazine seems to be mostly Debbie Bliss yarns - is there much difference in yarns for crochet or do equivalent (cheaper) brands work just as well as the Debbie Bliss ones?

    Thanks!

I found it difficult at first because of the size of the hook. To be honest it's really only double and chain. You double stitch then make the bobble which is a 3 chain in a stitch then you double stitch the top - sounds tricky but it's really not. The other stitch you do is a slip stitch. This is done by going though the stitch then wrapping the wool round the hook pull through and going straight through the stitch on the needle. (different from double - double is through the stitch, yarn round hook, pull through the stitch, yarn round hook again then through both)
    Did that make any sense?
Anyway....give it a go and don't be put off by that truly dreadful description!
By the way, the hat is crocheted sideways so it's only 26 stitches. The scarf is even less. Much better than the scarf I made from the mag. It had 256 stitches!

This is what I've spent my day on. Found it on a blog and it's called a Wool Eater. Had to really flatten it down to take a picture otherwise it is a bit wonky. It just looked more fun than a normal granny square.

Oh, bother. Just looked back at the site I got it from and noticed I haven't actually finished it, there is more to the pattern..... anyway here is the link if anyone else fancy having a try
Thinking of doing a few more and make a cushion cover for my sister

Yes Sue, i think we all are enjoying ourselves! I know I am!!! and its good to see that I am not the only one who's plans dont always turn out quite right!!!!!!

Laura - he looks really good. What you doing next?

Greenpixey - i like that square. Its much nicer than the one the art of crochet wanted us to do!! But dont you find making the animals more fun? Did you sell them or is your house covered in crochet animals? When my kids see anything I have done they want them. I have to hide the sock monkeys that i have done for my mum!!
