Thanks Hmo, his younger brother has just rung me, he wants to make one as well now so having him down today. Dont know how much he will get done as he tends to get bored quicker than the other one but might as well teach them something useful instead of them playing computer games all day.

i buy mine from a fabric shop in macclesfield they are cheap and loads of sizes and colours normally

skulls have never been my thing but thought i would give it ago.

your grandson has done a great job and her should be proud, tell him well done from me:)
Ooh hmo, there is a fabric shop in Macclesfied again?? I used to live there 15 years ago, and got a lot of stuff when an old (and last) habersdashers closed down (must have been 17 or so years ago). Still keep finding stuff I got then...no doubt loads still in the loft :o

I have a query...having problems with zips in bags. I seem to make a mess of the ends..they seem to be bent over and odd. When you are sewing up the sides of the linings and outsides..do you go all the way round, or do you go from zip-end to zip-end for both outer and linings? (leaving a gap in the lining for turning ofcourse). I have seen the tutorial with the little bits of fabric at the ends...is this the best way to go?
    Hope someone can help.

Off to get some cross-stitching done now, but want to get sewing later.

Have a good Sunday, soggy though it is!

if you arent in a hurry for fabric or have a set idea on what you want to buy, then i would definitely recommend joining one of the many coops on yahoo groups

    What's a coop?[/QUOTE]

same as any coop - you get together with other people, so you can buy in bulk and therefore get cheaper prices (ie wholesale not retail)

there are coops on yahoo groups that are item specific, so some specialise in notions, some in patterns, some in fabric, and then you can even get it more specialised, so people who just deal in fabric from a certain designer, etc.

its all done on a trust basis - the group owner lists what they are planning on buying, people put in their orders, you then get asked to pay your share for the item (paypal). you then wait for the group owner to receive the stuff, cut and pack. you then get told your shipping amount, pay this, and then you wait for it to arrive - depending on how busy the group owner is, this can all take anywhere from 2wks to 3m depending on quantities, shipping etc. - hence why i say not in a hurry for your items

ive only ever had things go wrong once (where i paid and never saw my items), but now i have a few groups / people that i stick with, and only go elsewhere on recommendation

most are based in the US, but thankfully shipping is so much cheaper west to east (its surprising how much fabric you can fit in a flat rate envelope if you know how to fold)

Hi all, just bought a pdf bag pattern from E-PatternsCentral and the design is on graph, so have to enlarge it onto graph tracing paper it says (can you buy this paper). Anyone know the best way of doing this. It doesn't give any measurements just says the squares are 1".

    Help:eek:

Decided my animal for the name plaques will be amonkey, here is my monkey mock-up! done very quickly and with the wrong coloured thread! This is the idea I'm going for, instead of 'Sew Happy' it will be the child's name and then the monkey will be sat on a swing. I'm quite happy with the look of the monkey just needs refining (alot lol!)

Depends on how much you want. Cheapest is from the US eg www.fabric.com but you have to order enough to make postage worthwhile, while not ordering so much to risk import duty and post office charges. I think the 'safe' limit is £18 GPB equivalent plus around £10 p &p
