Hi Ailsb :D to be honest I wouldn't waste any money on the little sewing machines :o you would be better hand sewing.

I had one when I 1st stared sewing last year and it was rubbish, a lot of other sewers here have said the same :(

Its so good you are getting a nice sewing room :T

I have spent nearly all afternoon searching on the internet for some fabric like the one I made my makeup bags with but in black, I know its called white tattoo ink blood red rose.
I did find one seller but she emailed me to say it is out of stock and is now refunding my money:( I had set my heart on it for a special bag too :(

I think it's Micheal Miller also saw some of his very similar but again I can't find a UK seller :( so that was a wasted afternoon :o

I did get this arrive this morning though http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FQ-LONELY-HEARTS-NEWSPAPER-ADVERTS-FABRIC-KITSCH-/320697146277?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric_Textiles_SM&hash=item4aab0a1ba5

I just loved it and had to get it but now no more fabric buying :(:o
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

    2. What do you use an overlocker for (sorry for the really stupid question- I know I could google it but thought one of you lovely ladies would answer in simplistic terms)

overlockers are mainly used for edging fabrics, so zigzag stitch to stop fraying or rolled hems

most come with a blade, that trims the edge of the fabric at the same time as it stitches, so you get a very neat edge

i use mine alot more than i thought i would, as you can knock up items so quickly on an overlocker. my sewing machine only comes out for hems and topstitching now

i use an overlocker too on all my cushions seams and on bags seams too i also sew them first on the sewing machine i know i dont need to but i just do.

they sew two paralel rows of stitching with a zigzag in the middle that all joins together.

have a look at your clothes they are bound to have overlocked edges.

Can I ask will overlockers sew hems, or are they just for overlocking the raw edge of material. I'm thinking of tee shirts they are always too long for (little shorty;)) could I use an overlocker to turn this up after cutting some off. Seen one at Dunelm Mill but it doesn;t say anything on the box.

Thanks will now look at Dunelm again, I have to shorten everything and most things seem to be slightly stretchy material these days.

Thanks Nykied, Hart, HMO and Flea for the information. I saw one in Dunelm and wasn't sure. Will give the small machine a miss.

Forgot to say earlier that I have completed 5 blocks for my quilt. Will get a picture on soon. Don't think I will get any done in the near future as need to focus on getting the house sorted.
