Chocolatelife bag looks great!! I still have yet to make a bag!

I wouldn't mind the compass cutter hart but saving up for the 36" by 24" mat

Rufus dog, been debating on whether to get a walking foot.

which foot would work best in sewing elastic together?? as I struggle with sewing 1/4" elastic ends together

No sewing for me, been decluttering my shed but had a play with the sewing machine my brother bought for me for christmas an old singer that drops down into a cabinet only got it delivered yesterday as he sent it somewhere to get it painted, it works and fond memories came back of me sewing with the exact same machine as a child at my Aunts!

    Freudianslip, what about freecycle?

    Thank you Rufus :D
I didn't get my cutter off ebay as I decided it must be cheaper somewhere else, always the MSE :rotfl:, I googled it and it is cheaper here http://www.cottonpatch.net/ so thats where mine is coming from :D
I have been drooling over this site for a long time but never brought from them so Im not sure how long it will take to arrive but they are only in Birmingham so not far from me :rotfl:
Would love to see your quilt when it is done :D I have only sewn one quilt on the machine and it was just following the squares but like you Im not sure if I should or could quilt the one Im going to get done, Im not sure if a quilt would fit under the arm of my machine :o. I am going to save for a nice quilting machine :D

I sell stuff on ebay to feed my addiction to sewing :)

freudian :D I started with a cheap basic machine from Tesco direct and it was great for what I need to start with, I used it for a year then OH brought me a new one for xmas but I wish I had got him to get me a quilting machine :o
I agree with irishgirl try freecycle as that is were I put my 1st one and a lady in my village had it, she was thrilled to bits with it :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

  • Thanks for your comments re the bag, this is such a good thread for spurring you on.
freudian - ask around if anyone has a machine that they're not currently using you could borrow for a bit and try it out. I've borrowed my Auntie's for the moment to try it out and see how I get on, is on my wish list now I've made a couple of things using it!

Do most of you use a machine? I would love to do a tote bag like ChocolateisLife but I just can't see how much hand stitching would ever be strong enough.

I just wish I could afford a machine. Time for another savings pot I guess!

The patchwork fabric bag that I recently made was hand stitched one weekend at my boyfriends. Although I did the lining at home on the machine later. But the straps, pockets, etc etc are all hand stitched. I just use back stitch to strengthen my sewing. Nobody looking at the front of it guessed it was sewn.
I will look for piccy and link,, or look on my home page. If I can do it anyone can.:D

Fab bag hmo! Have had a go at making a tote bag today, took me ages as i didn't seem to understand the tutorial very well but a great youtube tutorial helped me out. Is a 'practice run', want to make one for my mum with some poppy fabric i've bought although not sure how the material will look as a tote

join a freecycle group on the net in your area or the nearest to you if you are not already a member.

then you can post a wanted add for a machine or answer an offered thread for one, you never know you could get one.

i treated myself to an electronic sewing machine last june for my birthday i hadnt sewn in over 30 yrs and even then only did a couple of things, but i sew loads now loads of stuff on my blog.

i was very lucky in about sept last year and got an overlocker off freecycle.

if you have a car and dont mind travelling you can join more than one freecycle group to widen your horizons
