I've got the same 2 books:D I love them, so far I've made an angel (minus the wings:D) a dressing gown angel for my friends bathroom and some scented strawberries. I love these, they smell gorgeous and take no time to make. I Just added a few drops of strawberry oil(the stuff used for candle making) I sit or hang them from radiators and they smell divine and look so pretty:D

In the Tilda book she puts a few of theses strawberries in jars, I would love to receive something like that as a gift, would be great for xmas. Maybe change it to a cranberry and add a christmas scented oil, just a thought :0)

Yours have turned out beautiful, i plan to make the bathroom angel as well for my friends birthday in feb :j
  • Great to see a sewing thread - I mean to get my sewing machine out a lot this year, as I have loads of fabric from when I made quilts several years ago.

Has anybody spotted any fabric bargains online?

  • I would love to join this thread, I'm hoping for a very MSE New year!
I purchased a sewing machine last year and I've only used it the once, I would love to start some projects.
  • Rummer - my pal made me one of the Prima chickens for Easter last year and it's fab!!! I'd take a photo but my son has borrowed it so it's probably at the bottom of a toy box - harumph !! I used a really easy pattern to make some Xmas chickens, which went down well.
Some great ideas on here already.
I have a little Etsy and a Folksy shop and try to use recycled fabric for my stuff. My hubby has a sharp right knee that seems to go through his jeans every three months, so I make a lot of pincushions, brooches and bags from denim :)
I also use a lot of my 4 year olds outgrown clothes as he grows so quickly !!!

I have spent today putting my fabric stash in order and enjoying planning what i could make...............it never gets to actually making much though so this thread is a God send to make me get off my bum and get sewing.

Tonight I am cutting out a dress to go over trousers using some lovely viyella which I probably bought twenty years ago.

I have also found a huge bag of scraps so perhaps a quilt will be in order too. I must stop buying fabric it's like an addiction.

If you are a newbie, I would stick to just a basic machine like me, I got mine from Argos about two years ago, and when I do use it:rolleyes: It does what I need it to, it cost about 99.00 then and is a jerome one, I think someone stated on a ealier post that argos have one for around 80.00 now.....hth

Fabric buying addiction...hmm yes that sounds a bit like me. I have two boxes in the loft, three cloth bags in my sewing room and two baskets full of fabric. I also have a box of fabric still boxed as it was delivered, that I haven't had time to find a home for yet.

I have some dresses and trousers cut out but it all got abandoned when I rashly promised to make my daughter a ballgown to wear when she sang in her latest school show. She has a lovely ballgown but I have a pile of bits still waiting to be sewn up.
