Hi, Im hoping one of you lovely ladies might be able to help me. My sister in law to be saw a pic of some lovely bridesmaid dresses that she absolutely loves the design and colour of but is unable to find the exact dresses. She is hoping to have them made but is struggling to find a colour match for the material. Can anyone suggest an online material shop? Also what sort of material do you think the dresses are made from? Really hoping someone might be able to point us in the right direction :D

If you find a local dressmaker they maybe able to help with the sourcing of your fabric. It looks like a silk satin or polyester blend but the drapy bit looks like chiffon.

I just wanted to comment, because the colour (would it be Jade or turquiose?) reminded me of the bridesmaid dress that I wore to my Uncle's wedding in the 80's when I was aged about 8.

    a bit like this

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSgMhd402DAMG-NgwBUAmDGqP8hmjqs78o5rUP3G6wCtlaQOFLDEg

only in the colour above & it had all swags along the bottom and bows where the swags met! and bows all along the neckline which had the same frill as in the picture above. Accompanied by white lace gloves (aunt was BIG madonna fan lol) and a gorgous artificial bouquet and headdress of jade & white feathers and artificial roses. There was also 7 other bridesmaids in the same dresses! I thought that I looked like a princess!

gave me a little chuckle lol:rotfl:

Dont the welsh blankets cost a lot? Have you got a cheap price for them then? They really are lovely bags, and I think that somewhere I probably do have a pattern thats possible. I am watching some tartan fabric on ebay, but the few blankets were huge prices up into the couple of hundreds some of them!
Mind you you could make a lot of bags out of one blanket I suppose.
    :D

Morning, I couldnt sleep so I am up and thinking about my next sewing projects.
I managed to actually get into my work room, and sew last night. It was about 8.30 and I really had to push myself to move rather then to sit watching the TV or a tutorial on the laptop.
I finished the lining for the patchwork bag I handstitched at BF's last week. Then I used the rest of the fabric, and cut out a couple of walking stick bags, and another smaller handbag, and a clutch bag, and thier linings, and interlinings where necessary. I also cut out 4 quick totes, or book bags from a vynl table cloth. Then my back had had enough and it was 10.50 So very late for me to be up.
Here was I thinking that I would have a lay in this morning. Ha, I woke at 5.10 and couldnt go back to sleep.
DGD is still asleep so at least its peaceful. Apart from the sound of the washing machine going around.
I have to go to the post office this morning, and BF is coming over today, so I doubt I will get any sewing done unless its by hand infront of the TV. We have a mass of jobs around the house and garden to attend to today.

I think thats what I should be doing, but I am never very good at the photographing, so tend to procrastinate and never get it done!
Like I have been up for over an hour, and i am still on the laptop!

    MooLoo,

Clutch bag? do you know of a idiots guide/turorial on the internet?

as i have been thinking of trying one out, but even though welsh blankets are quite thick, they are not stiff, so dont know if they would turn out too floppy IYSWIM

Broke another needle last night:o:rotfl: so i think i will have to find other things to make than the bags at mo.

I am already using heavy duty needles.... I bought some universal ones last week, but they dont fit my machine.( they havent got the little groove at the top of the needle)

I bought the singer inspiration about 2 years ago, and even universal bobbins dont fit:mad:

I have 2 old electric sewing machines that are in work, so might send hubby up to get them, and see if i dont break any needles with them ones...lol..

think i might make a load of triangle chickens today, as they are quick to make..

I use/sell them as pin cushions, I do a small version, as they keep their shape and look better ( again must be my sewing...lol..)

Someone on another thread, mentioned about selling some bits on etsy?

was just wondering which is the best folksy or etsy? and how much does it does per item to sell etc?

Thanks Hart for reminding me about free listings on ebay this weekend I sold all my dresses at the last free listings!

love the chicken doorstop, I bought an owl doorstop from B and M it was identical to laura ashleys owl doorstop but not at their sale price of 18.75 but at £3.99!!

My DS is feeling left out of my sewing projects and asked me to make him a wallet, I am going to try and make this one using his most loved jeans that got ripped at the crotch last week
http://www.noodle-head.com/2011/03/celebrate-boy-tutorial-basic-boys.html and my clasp have arrived and I am gonna make my mum one for her birthday on monday.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Not sure where there is a tutorial, but I will take a look for you.
If the blankets are too loose for things you can buy a spray fabric stiffener. But I dont know the name of it, as my mum decanted it into a spray bottle for me. But again I will look into it.
alternatively you can use iron on interfacing to make them have more structure.
I am lucky that my machine takes the universal bobbins and needles. Maybe you can take them back if they are still in the packet.
I opened an Etsy shop, havent looked at Folksy yet, but thought that it may be better. My Etsy shop is empty at the moment, but it was all in $ and cents. I think it was about 20cent per item but then the rest of the terms are a mystery to me.
It would probably be better then Ebay, unless you have it on a buy it now, only.
Although everything I have put on Ebay has sold, it didnt really bring me in a return and some ended up going for a complete pitance. :o

Perhaps its time for me to turn out the cupboards and get some of those clothes I dont wear on to Ebay. (but I keep saying that and get side tracked and it doesnt happen.)

My slice machines new Memory card, and the magnetic cutting board and collar have arrived today. (Well I had to go to the post office to collect it). I am so excited but not sure when I will get to use it yet!
BF is due in about an hour and I cannot be huddled up in my room with him around, and DGD too!
