Mooloo, you can fiddle about with the layout if you go into settings then choose design and the advanced options. In there you can change your layout to have 3 columns instead of 2 etc and pick different backgrounds etc. If you need help with doing a blog header go into The Littlest Crafters blog. She did mine for me and has posted a tutorial on how to do it using picnik. Her blog link is on my blog if you cant find her on google. :)

p.s Im another one that bought shirring elastic (although I bought it last year and Im too scared to use it too as it says you have to keep it taught whilst winding it round your bobbin and Im worried I do it wrong or break my beloved machine. :(

    Thanks PootleFlump.
I will head over and have a look.
Re shirring elastic, many years ago, I made masses of little dresses with shirring in, (even one for princes Beatrice. gosh that was years ago!!). but I wound it onto the bobbin loosely!? not taught?
The tension tightened it enough? I will have a go later, I have some shirring elastic upstairs, although its years and years old so I dont know if its any good anymore.!:o

I have made another bag, so thats also on my homepage now.

ok first problem ladies with placing pattern onto fabric.
my fabric is 60 wide and the lady told me to buy 1 yd

now not being a dress maker my first instinct was to fold the fabric in half right sides together down its length?

so i have a long narrow strip

but on the sheet that came with the fabric it looks like they lay out the fabric with the yard accross and the 60 down and then fold inwards from the top and bottom to take the front and back which have to be cut on a fold, so theres a section in the middle thats single fabric but the top and bottom are double, does that make sense?

is that how i do it

It is often the case that the fabric is only folded over to take part of the pattern on a fold. As long as its on the grain.
Then usually the other pieces are cut on a single basis.
Before you cut things out, make sure that they follow the grain line.
I have often made things that I set out the pattern differently to the suggested pattern so as to use smaller amounts of fabrics or to save the spare fabric in one larger piece for something else.
Basically the rule is that it must all be cut out in the same direction.
So that when the garment is made up the nap is all going the same way.
I hope that this will help you.
    Making clothes is relatively simple.
No worse then other things. Little summer dresses can be make very quickly.
The pattern doesnt need to be complicated. The fabrics can make the dress.
    :D

As long as its all going in the same direction and with the grain you should be fine. Goodluck. Look forward to seeing the end results.

I can see what you mean about the lines! I must admit stripes that are small can do that to me too! ;)

    Thanks,
I managed to live in Belper for 18 months and never did get to Matlock Baths! Running a pub was just too time consuming!.
Was going to sew a bit more, but I am actually too tired, and have a lot of driving to do tomorrow, so best I dont push myself any further or my arm will regret it.
