Cant comment on big shot or cricut but I have a silhouette and you can pretty much cut whatever shapes you want and download from the web rather than buying dies etc. You just iron wonder under onto your fabric then cut whatever shapes you like. x0 -

Ive not really been making anything recently but am popping in every day as usual to see what you have all been up to (and you have all been busier than me by the looks of it!)
Can anyone help me please. Ive been practising doing hexies but Im a bit confused as some of the tutorials tell you to sew through the paper and other say not to as they are more difficult to come out. Can anyone who has done hexies tell me which is best please. Im doing 2" ones. Also, does anyone else cut squares rather than hexies out of the fabric? One of the books I have says you can just cut squares to make it easier but im not sure if there will be too much fabric given that my hexies are quite a bit size.
Thanks peeps. x
hi pootle! are you doing hexes for english paper piecing or just cutting shapes and sewing? I find it easier to cut hexes with scissors tbh...I made a template and draw round it with pen/chalk and then cut with scissors. If youre doing paper piecing you need extra to wrap; this may help!

apparently big shot allows you to cut paper and fabric; i used to have one and sold it when I flogged all my scrapbooking stuff! Dont miss it tbh...use my rotary cutter much more or good old scissors and template! Plus the dies are very expensive...hth?:DNerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! big shot and cuttlebug are manual die cutters, in other words you buy a pre shaped die and put it through the machine and can cut fabric, felt, card, chipboard etc etc
sillhouette, cricut, pazzles are electronic cutting machines which means with the excepttion of the cricut you can take any shape either draw in the software that comes with the machine, our get a shape off the net or even a jpeg, tiff, gif and turn them into a cutting template.
cricut uses cartridges which again can be costly.
i used to sell the craft robo (same as silhouette) but only would cut lightweitgh card and wouldnt cut fabric that good. i also design and sell basic tutorials for that machine.
i now only sell the pazzles inspiration its more money but does so much more and cuts alot bigger.
it will cut fabric you have to use a stiffening ive used bondaaweb and it cuts great
hope that helps0 -

yes it does again you have to bondaweb it, having said that i have cut some felt in the past thats already stiff without bondaweb.
i did two cushions recently they are on my blog with an applique elephant on, and the ear was felt and body fabric
not the greatest photo but the pink ear is felt0 -

The Little Fella is much better in himself now, but is still covered in spots. Hasn't stopped him getting up to his usual tricks though :rotfl:
