Wasn't it good though that we had "sewing teachers", my daughter who is 15 can't believe that we were actually taught how to sew at school lol

I wish they still did sewing classes then my daughter could sew her own clothes :rotfl: instead of asking me for money to buy them :rotfl:
I remember the 1st thing we were told to sew was our apron for cookery class now they get given whites for cooking (at least most schools still do that :D)

I have made a cushion cover and the 1st block for the star quilt along, I know it's not starting till the 1st of May but I need to get ahead as Im going to be out of action on the 10th with my hand op :(
I will try post some pic's later :o
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Given whites? When I was in high school we had to buy the school uniform apron which was white with purple stripes, rubbish quality and super expensive if you didn't have it you didn't cook.

I haven't done any of my sewing yet because it seemed I became neighbourhood babysitter today instead.I made up the time though by making some of the easter eggs.So I'm hoping to get out the machine now.But it's made me wonder about the ironing board-I always need to iron the seams in first if I'm to top stitch (which I will need to do today with crayon rolls.)Getting the ironing board out is such a mission though,do I have any other options?

Hi polkadot :D I used to fold a towel in half put it on my table and iron seams on that until I brought a little tabletop ironing board :D they are around a fiver and well worth it as you can leave it out or fold it by the work area without using too much space :D

Thanks for that-I was just looking at those on ebay...might be on the wish list for next month.Whilst you're about can I ask you about tension please? I have a brother and I think Im good with tenion except for the fact that I cant remember which way...the higher the number=tighter or looser tension?I think little fingers have been at te dials.I am wearing my quilting gloves for the first time (as an aside)and they really do make a difference.

Thanks Hart. Those trousers must have needed a good bit of fabric :rotfl:Have you made anything tartan since?

The machines at the craft fair were all scary computerised ones that seemed to be able to embroider by themselves Harry Potter-style. My little sis got a basic Brother machine from Argos and she seems to like it. I'll look back on the thread for any other machine recommendations.

I have a Brother MS6NT and love it, ive had it neary a year and just made another bag tonight i will try and post a photo tommorow

I just used a tea towel on the kitchen counter:Dcan I refer you ladies who are here back to my tension question please?I cant work it out.Is it the higher the number=tighter or looser tension?

ETA:Fixed it-so I did a crayon roll that was meant for my tools but I didn't take the seam allowance into account so it was still too short for my tools-but too long for crayons.I also stitched the columns too close together...but now I know what I did wrong so that I can do it again. It looks pretty anyway.Although I do need to work on my backstitching-it looks like a whole different row:(
