Hello ladies (any gents?!)
I am dipping my toe in this thread to ask where's the cheapest place to buy vilene (sp?) from online? I've bought it from Hobbycraft before but knowing how horrendously expensive that place can be I just wondered if you knew of anywhere cheap??
ThanksI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

I bought a couple of Maxi dress patterns from the place that had them half price a while back and just looked at the back at the sizing and am really confused.
I usually take a size 10 - 12 but would lean towards 10 especially with dresses. But the sizing on the back of the pattern suggests that I am in fact much bigger.
I know I was a 27" waist when I was properly measured for my wedding dress which was a strange place sort of around my ribs, not the smallest part (on me this is just above my hip bone).
I am definitely bigger now than I was then but even if I am 28" now that makes me a 14 going by the pattern, but the bust on a 14 is 36" and I measure 30" (if bust is the bit that you measure for a bra?) and that makes my top half somewhere between size 6-8.
I don't even want to get into my hip measurement.:(
I suppose to summarise:
-Am I really *that* pear shaped?
- where should bust, waist and hips be measured and is there a correct way to do it?
- Anyone else found the sizing confusing and just gone with normal clothes size - how did that work out?
Help!
if you visit the pattern review website, you can search the gallery by pattern number & make. There is always a bit in the review about how true to size the fit was (and how easy the pattern was to make)0 -

kaz they sell it on ebay for 9.99!! Unsure if Im going to do it and having to be discipled as have spent 30 on fabric for my throw but would love you to be a guinea pig for the quilt!!
Re the templates I am using a plastic sheeting for my hexagons - various reasons - I got a pack for 7.99 but a single template would have been 9.99 and this was I get loads. I use rotary cutter for squares/triangles but sometimes easier to use scissors for hexagons etc! I just got the size hexagon I wanted, printed and traced onto the plastic template sheet and cut two out!
If anyone is interested in a plastic one I have a 24x6 quilters square going spare - its not omnigrid and I found it more difficult to read (am mathematically dyslexic so numbers flummox me at the best of times lol!) -let me know if interested!
Like others not up to dresses yet but tbh I rarely wear them! Well done those who have ventured into clothes making!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi Guys,
Hobbycraft are having s 20% off evening on this coming Thursday. I've put the voucher on my blog if you want it!
Cheers

Hobbycraft is always the dearest for anything imo - although they have very good sales! Suppose that is the downside of having so much under one roof! And having travelled all that way, you are not going to leave without buying (well that is what they assume)
I just buy from my local habadashery store (fabricland or JL, although JL is dearer). What interfacing do you need? I know Pootle buys quite a bit to use in her bags but not sure where she buys from.
I bought some double sided stuff at the weekend for an applique project that I am going to attempt tonight. One brand (steam-a-seam) was over £6 pm:eek: but the stuff that I bought (heat-n-bond) was £2.50pm!:money:I have no idea why there was such a price difference and what the difference between the products was as the lady in the shop was just just covering the regular staff's lunch break.0 -

"officially" you are dyscalculic My friends little girl was diagnosed with this when she was quite young. She finds things like dialling a number difficult and has to learn pin numbers by the pattern they make on the pad rather than learning the digits.0 -
Hya all
Just been catching up after being MIA for nearly a week.
Lovely makes everyone...I really must get my a**e into gear and get sowing, but I have soo much else to do this week:
- Make some patchwork potholders for MIL for Mothers Day...the parcel needs posting by Friday.
- Design and make a X-stitch coaster (21st birthday - male) for next Monday.
- Then there is all the seed sowing and plant potting up to do, never mind the weeding.
I am all fired up to do loads of sewing after spending all of Saturday (9:30am to 4pm!) at the NEC last Saturday...what an inspiration!!! I have been making the excuse that I didn't have a darning foot, so I couldn't do any quilting...then I saw what could be done with just straight stitching and loads of different materials...wonderful!!
I spent quite a bit (:o), but a lot will end up as presents, Xmas and otherwise.
Must dash as I have to get tea sorted before getting on with something creative this evening!
Will post piccies of my makes when I get them done.

You can make one using an old T- shirt and duct tape. Just keep wrapping round and round your arms and torso and then get a friend to cut you out. Stick the two halves back together and there you go. I think you can padd out the inside to make it more solid too. Keep meaning to do this as it sounds like fun but not got round to it yet!
I'd have a go at this, but my OH would never cut me out!0
