hart44 - thank you:) I am a true fabric addict, oh actually anything craft addict - my little uns love my boxes and get to pleay with all the things in them so hopefully it will make them interested.

We used to Camp near Belper when I wasa growing up at a farm near Whatstandwell, I love Matlock and Matlock Bath too - drag my OH there regularly and am looking forward to taking the girls.

Sometimes I think Im lucky living so near to Matlock but then when summer comes I want to be back in Norfolk by the sea :(
I think living here inspires me to craft as everywhere is so beautiful :D

Im half way through the bag :) better get on instead of sitting here lol
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Those are cute little baskets. Love the name Belper wonder what it means.

I have to say a BIG thank you to Tamster telling me about hand quilting thread. It has saved a lot of frustration/knots and tangles cos I would have used just ordinary cotton thread. It's amazing how quilting turns a large piece of material into a proper quilt! I've only done a little bit and can see the transformation already. Sorry couldn't get a closer photo.

forgot to add that I will be doing the sash strips as well after the squares. There is another picture on my blog.

It would have to be Matlock for me everyday. I love Derbyshire and would only go to Norfolk under protest but then I'm not a sea person and don't like the coastal winds. Lucky you living somewhere so beautiful.

ISOM - love the colour scheme for your quilt, I too would have unpicked (while grizzling and griping about it!) as I'm v critical of my own work and it would bug me.

Hart - cute baskets, would love to see a piccie of the finished projects pretty please?

Pennib - love the had sewn quilt, you must be very patient

WendyM - well....what can I say LOL! I'll tell my mum the tale of the mucky nightshirt...she might feel better about getting a box of chocs for altering skirst LOL!

My stock answer when people ask me to alter/mend clothes or make curtains is I don't for other people cos its too stressfull when it goes wrong...when they hear that I 'go wrong' they usually back off pretty quickly :rotfl:

I've been given some machine needles from the friend who's having a clearout - I've only ever bought machine needles that have a flat side at the top when you insert it into the machine, but these are circular at the top. Do you think I could use them? don't want to break my machine if they would twist during sewing IYSWIM?

Danemi & Nykied; It was in an email the we corresponded said information! Basically Tamster told me that if doing hand quilting there is special hand quilting thread (which you can get in various colours) it has a sort of coating on it and is a bit stronger. It's great stuff as it doesn't tangle and knot, but you don't use it in a sewing machine. Hope that helps.

    Afternoon!
My DS's preschool have just decided that it is fancy dress everyday next week - I have only one costume so was going to try and make a couple over the weekend. I have some leopard print fabric purrfect for making one, I was going to do a simple PJ type thing with elasticated cuffs at the hands and feet, but wondered about the head - is it easy to make hood type thing or should I stick to ears on a hairband?

I need to sort through the rest of my stash for inspiration for another one now!

Any links to tutorials or ideas would be fab.

Pennib you must have the patience of a saint! When I did my "finishing your first quilt" course, I was the only one not to even attempt to handquilt as I don't really do any hand-sewing if I can help it. I even machine-stitched all my bindings. (and I am afraid to say - I repair my hems with wonder-web) blush!

You can buy quilting thread in most of usual habadashery places. I know gutterman do it. But the coating comes off if you use it in the machine & can !!!!!! it up. You need a special machine quilting/embroidery thread if machine sewing. The teacher also used recommended a special wax stuff that you can run the thread through.

The Amish aim for around 10 stitches per inch and some of the historic quilts have 18-20 stitches per inch!!! I think an Amish 3 yr old is probably better at hand sewing than me lol!:rotfl:

Ds is running around the house today in a racing-car driver's helmet/hat. It would make a good pattern for an animal hood - would just need to add the ears. It is essentially 3 parts - two sides and then a rectangle down the middle. Will try & upload some pics.

    will be back...

grrr, took some photos, uploaded them to the pc and then they vanished!! I also clicked erased after importing so they are not on camera memory anymore either!

I went through my recent items & found some of them, but not all! Very strange! Can only think that the DH changed a setting and they have all been stored in some random folder somewhere. He was trying to bluetooth some pics from his phone to the PC last night. (well he usually gets the blame for any PC related issues could never be me lol) Dunno why he just didnt put his memory chip into the card reader lol!

Anyway - I managed to find this one5517676070

which hasnt seemed to work either grrr
    linky - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tamsters_makes/5517676070/

You could quite easily adapt for an animal mask

PS what happened to you blog - I used to enjoy following your make-overs lol
