Decision was made last night - unpicking the worst but leaving the ones a few mm out...just knew it would annoy me if I left them glaringly bad! For the quilters do you trim each 9 patch when youve made it up or just sew as is? Im tempted to trim each block just for tidyness sake for me as noone will see it when its done anyway!! Just wondered what people do...have also got sore thumb from matching up the fabrics iykwim!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! ISOM - I usually trim my blocks before I sew them together and to make sure they are all the same size and square.0

Oh Dear Wendy!
The DH is a mechanic and is often asked to look at peoples cars - he will say what work needs doing & how much it will cost etc at the garage so people are not ripped off. If it is a small job that he can do at the roadside with little tools then he will fix it himself. He doesnt like to ask for money as it is usually friends or family (or family of friends etc) so will ask for "a drink".
Most people round here seem to understand that "a drink" means a bit of money for a drink or two but on occasion he has then been asked "tea or coffee" and once someone said to him sorry I havent anything in, would a glass of water be ok!. And then comes home so peed off, I keep telling him he needs to name his price but he just wont! Men ay!
The thing is as everything is mass produced nowadays, people have no understanding of how time-consuming any skilled work is and only think of the cost of the finished object - not the manhours and labour that also went into it!0 -

I have often been asked to mend or make for people (sewing wise), the trick is to have a prepared answer... I normally say, sorry, but I haven't got time. Or I will do it for a small fee. I depends what people want or who they are! I have found, even if people are paying me, I still don't like doing things for other people. I just enjoy sewing for my own pleasure.
