Well my bags both have 4 bids, so thats a start, and definite sales at the end of the 7 days. I will be driving myself mad keep looking to see if they will cover the costs of the fabrics. If they also make enough to make a profit (or cover labour realistically),then I can indulge in buying the accessories I would like to enhance future bags, clothes and gifts etc.
I managed to cut out 4 bags from one piece of needecord I have. I may even manage a skirt for DGD too.
But I will have to see how my time goes etc. It won't be today. But If I can make the bags by Wednesday then perhaps I can get Molly's daughter to photograph them for me, and put them up on the website.
Good luck with selling off the excess fabrics and the clothes. I bought a lot of clothes for DGD on ebay last year for her holidays. They will not fit her this year, but my eldest daughter is expecting a girl this year so I will pass the best on to her.
Happy sewing over the weekend. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I had another think about the denim quilt. I am not normally one to be beaten and I hadnt sewn the squares together yet so had a sort out of them. Some with the seams in I had done embroidery on them but the ones with out seams I had just sewn a cross from corner to corner to hold a bit of wadding to the back. So I laid them out again and managed to find enough to alternate them so one embroidered one plain etc then sewed them into strips of 6. Then I cut out some smaller squares (think they were 4 inches) and I sewed one of these onto each of the plain squares leaving the edge raggy around the square. I used normal cotton scraps what I had left over from my other quilts, mostly flowery. Then I sewed the strips together. I have sewn all the denim wrong sides together (I took out a couple of the squares that were too much on the cross) so hopefully the edges of those seams will rag as well.
I havent decided what to put on the back yet, I wont need to add wadding as I sewed it to the back of the denim squares already (doesnt go right to the edges so I could do a seam). I will still add the buttons to the top bit. Thinking may be I can find some nice duvet covers in a pretty flowery pattern to use as backing. I am going to put it through the washing machine once I have finished it all off as I have read this helps with the ragging.
I have slightly reduced the number of squares, was going to do 8 x 6 but have made it just 5 x 6 now and I have enough squares to do two quilts. The second one is ready to piece together if I get time today. The 8 x 6 would have fitted a single bed but I am making them just lap size quilts instead. Means I have to find some more pairs of jeans now to do two more.0 -
Hi guys, I havew made a 'diaper bag' not for me but for a friend. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1796495905914&set=at.1638533916963.2087129.1045229760.1514920129&ref=nf#!/photo.php?fbid=10150101321841299&set=a.496313641298.265326.685381298&theater hopefully this will work - I really need to sort out my Flickr to post pics.

Thats lovely - I made one like that for a friend too!0 -
Nykied, thanks for that.
Henna, thats brilliant! Love the fabric (I have the same stuff in oilcloth). Really like that you used co-ordinating stuff too. Looks great.
Mooloo - 4 bids - thats great news!!
Kaz, welcome to the thread.
Rufus, look forward to seeing it once you have finished it and are happy with it.0 -
All this talk of quilts is giving me itchy fingers to try one but I'm not sure I have the patience or staying power to do so! I like projects that I can finish over the course of a couple of evenings. Plus my mum is an avid quilter and has already made my dd one, and is in the process of making another for her big girl bed. It might be seen as stepping on her toes if I were to make one!
Congrats Mooloo on the bids! I'm quite surprised at handmade things selling on Ebay, and I really hope that you manage to get decent prices for them. I'd love to see them but I'm guessing it would be against forum rules to link??
Anyway, I've just finished another dress for my dd for her cousins' birthday party this weekend. The pictures don't do the fabric justice, it's a gorgeous light beige/cream 100% linen. Not the most practical for a toddler's dress but I love it and she'll only wear it for special occasions!

Lovely dress Bexterwho. I'll have to make one for my niece in the summer, it's so pretty.
I've got a question - I'm about to start making a skirt this weekend. It's got a waistband and I've bought pinstripe fabric. Do the stripes on the waistband go along it or up and down it? I'm thinking along, but I thought I'd get the opinion of you lot0 -

I have alway cut them along the way, otherwise it would look messy as the stripes would not match, where you have seams and darts. Much neater to go in the opposite direction. Hope this helps.
Just made one of my bags that I cut out yesterday. It has taken me ages to do!. I am rather slow becuase of my health problems, so I would never get my time covered in my costs!!:o
Three more to go! But perhaps its time to stop tonight. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Thanks, I didn't think about that, to be honest.Just made one of my bags that I cut out yesterday. It has taken me ages to do!. I am rather slow becuase of my health problems, so I would never get my time covered in my costs!!:o

I think that, as long as you're enjoying doing it (or it's something you'd be doing anyway), then it's not that important about making money on your time.0 -

Think that you may very well be right there! I am sewing becuase I enjoy it, or I wouldnt try. Its more to keep my mind busy, as being at home with a 3 year old all day, and having been used to working, I find I was "wasting" both my time, and my self!.
She is now in nursery, 3 mornings a week, so I have more time, and she is beginning to play with things without always having me to have to occupy her.
(I didnt get the time to be at home with my 4 children, I had to work, to make ends meet, so I find it very strange, even 2 years on from leaving work!). Ah well, sorry, I digress!.
Housework beckons before I am over run by the mess! It goes unnoticed when I am sewing!:oWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Love the little dress Bexter xx
I had a good day yesterday, I bought a bundle of fabrics off someone on Ebay, wasnt sure what I was getting as it just said various pieces mostly samples but when it arrived it was a really big bundle and the fabrics were a lovely selection, mostly furnishing types but lots of different colours and textures.
I decided to have a go at making a picture out of them, I was wanting to do something special for the cushion I am making for my brother for his 60th birthday, I had one side planned but didnt know what to do the other side so decided to do a pic of our old house where we grew up and our family as we were back then.
