aww thank you for the crazy mumma linky - have saved her and know Ill spend hours poring over the posts!
My dear pootle it sounds as if you have information overload; common with new crafts so may I suggest that you start with 2 things - (1) find the quilt pattern you adore (2) go and get the bits you need to make a delicious quilt and then come back to us and we'll go for the step by step way of doing it to get you past the "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what do I do now" stage! How's that me lovely!
Well I have a day off tomorrow and have decided that my lovely mum (recipient of quilt #1) and I will go to the quilting shop for a wee excursion with lunch! I want to get the wadding (middle bit) and some fabric for the back plus check that I have enough fabric (they will tell me cos they are good at maths and workings out where I am rubbish at that bit...I get all kerfuzzled!). i am also not v happy with my cream fabric as I dont think its 100% cotton so rather than di as I was going to (just use it anyway) ill start again on that bit...looking at the back of one of the momma ones I think Ill do an almost plain back with some bits here and there!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! I know what you mean ISOM
when you only have a few hours here and there your brain goes into melt down trying to get eveything together and what to do and will it be done in time
:o
When I get like that I have to walk away and try again another day.
My problem is everything I see is something I want to do sewing, painting, candle making and even recycling bit of wood into something for my home (I blame living here lol as its full of history and beautiful surroundings, it just inspires my craftyness :rotfl:)
I am going to do a little sewing tomorrow and see if I can get myself back into my quilts againGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Hart, thanks so much for that link. I think I had it bookmarked previously but my laptop broke and I lost all my stuff.
ISOM I think you are right, information overload!!
Tamster, Im going to look out for that book. I got one called "your first quilting book (or it should be)" but instead of basic instructions, it sounds more like a higher maths exam!
Mooloo, let us know how you get on with your ebay sales!
Thanks so much everyone. Id be lost without all your lovely people on this forum! x0 -
Pootle, there's also one that I like called 'Two from one Jelly Roll' by Pam and Nicky Lintott. I've got it out of the library and the basis for all the quilts is half a jelly roll and various other bits of fabric.0

Hello there, I'm delurking for a quick minute. I had a look at the links posted from the non chat thread yesterday. I thought that the freestyle quilting site was fabulous. I had been wondering how you got the design on there in the last few days. What struck me though was when I showed it to DH. There are some lovely patterns on there. I was explaining that to make a quilt you need the layers etc etc. But when you are free styling on the squares, do you just do one at a time and then sew them together, then add backing and middle?

Hi Kaz
the freesyle patterns on quilts are done after it has all been put together.
I have never done it as my quilts are just patchwork ones and I feel its a bit too advanced for me yet
Hope you over come your fear of the machine soon and join us

If you mean the ones that look sort of like stained glass windows, I think they're done individually so that each one forms a square, and then the middle's added. So that they're just treated like a normal square.0
