hello ladies..and i suppose gents!! i am new to this sewing malarky! i knit and do all other things crafty but i have just got some cheap cath kidston material and would love to make my lil boy a shirt, waistcoat and tie....depending on how much material i will need! lol.
i have tried searching google to find free patterns but cant seem to find what i am looking for. does anyone know of a nice place to get a very easy (first time sewer!!) pattern for any or all!
thanks in advance and have been really inspired by all the fab makes on here! i hope i have some pics to add soon!! :-D
You've picked the right time to be looking for boy patterns, they are generally thin on the ground which is why 2 bloggers are hosting their 2nd annual Celebrate The Boy month a lot of other bloggers are jumping on the bandwagon as well so its a good term to google atm. HTH0 -

Luckily a friend has said that she has a pile she wants to "re-home", so I will have to find some space somewhere for my new "stash"!!!
I already have lots of other stashes for x-stitching, crafting and knitting...and we only have a little cottage. Something will have to go!!! Wonder if my DS1 really wants to come back home during holidays from Uni! :rotfl:
Must get to bed soon, shattered, and need to get a good (and long) night's sleep.
PS My sewing machine is a Lewenstein I got in Holland in 1986...doesn't look like it has a "darning foot" though. It does do zig-zag, and loads of other stitches.

the web address for asding is http://www.asding.com/
Would reccomend for wadding etc as they delivered very quickly despite the heavy snow at the time. I ordered the extra wide cotton/poly blend as it meant I could get two quilts out of the width.0 -
Haven't been on for the past week and just catching up on all your gorgeous makes they are fabulous :j
Well thought I'd give making a portable herbal tea bag holder a whirl. Couldn't find a pattern so made my own up, I think I'll have to make another as I wanted a tiered approach to the slots. Really should learn that if I'm making up a pattern to think it up properly beforehand as currently I seem to go for it and end up sewing it all together inside out or something equally silly :rotfl:
At least I managed my first successful bit of blind sewing :T:T0 -

My local market has a harberdashery stall which lets you buy small lengths, and hobby craft too. I cut all the ribbons out of my clothes too when I get new ones (the bits that go over the hanger to stop the top falling off). I make taggies and I use bits of lace over strips of fabric, and any scraps of nice textured fabric. If you sew it in a tube then you can iron it flat and cut bits off.
Hope that makes sense!0 -

Are you by any chance in W Yorks? Bond's in Farsley is an Aladdin's cave of haberdashery. I haven't been for a couple of years, so don't know definitely that the shop is still there.
It's easy to find at the bottom of Farsley Town Street, open Wed-Saturday. I think they close at 4.30 Tel: 0113 2574905.
Or some markets - certainly Newark (Notts) and Leicester.
Online I have bought from kultya, but they now sell only on ebay (sorry - link not working). I'm not sure whether all ribbons would count as babysafe.0 -
Gorgeous cushions and quilts!
I have two cushion inserts and some fleece and left over gingham to make some cuhions for DD's room. Nothing fancy just fleece one side, ginham the other and stitch it all up so it can all get thrown in the washing machine.
I made my little storage bin. It turned out a bit wrong, the fabric with teh iron on interfacing has went funny, like it has air bubbles? And it's not reversable like I'd hoped, but DD loves it, she has her tea set in it and she takes it from room to room carrying toys. It matches her bunting which is equally not perfect, but it's the thought that counts right? Next time I won't iron the interfacing or just use a sturdier fabric (I used light plain cotton and cheap asda fleece blankets, I love asda fleece blankets!).
Rikki, I get ribbon from ebay. I look for bundles and usually manage to find some. Tutu making not taggies but I'd love a taggie anyway... ribbon and fleece fetish all in the one? lol0 -
I love looking on this thread at the lovely things you all make - you are all very clever. I have completed a few cot quilts and if I could I would post a photo, but not sure if I know how. Anyway keep on sewing and posting so that we can all see. Billie x:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

Hello
I'm a bit of a lurker but I would love some advice from experienced sewers/dressmakers. I bought a beautiful wool and cashmere camel coat in a charity shop yesterday - it fits beautifully but is about 4'' too long. It's fully lined with a vent at the back and there are facings at the front that seem to be piped?? I can sew (machine and hand) but I'm not sure whether to tackle this myself or take it to a seamstress/tailor to alter. I'm struggling to work out how best to go about it if I attempt it and I'm worried about ruining the coat. Any thoughts/tips/ideas would be much appreciated.0
