Ah, there it is! The light's a bit rubbish for taking a photo, but hey! I love it but I think it's a bit big for me. I think I'm going to try the Buttercup bag next.

Thanks for your comment on my blog - I'd comment back but I don't think it works like that on a blog, does it?

If you make your blog settings so that you get e-mails when someone posts you can reply to them via your e-mail, just go into settings and alter them so you get notification (not that I expect a reply but yes you can providing whoever sends them doesnt have no reply (which is another thing to take off yours unless of course you dont want people to reply to comments you make.) Other thing is that you will find sometimes is that alot of people dont like commenting if you have word verification on so its a good idea to take it off. If start getting spam you can change your settings to visible after approval.

Thanks - I've done the changes you suggested, but I can't find where it lets me take off the 'no reply' when I post on other blogs.

It was already set to send emails to me when someone comments, but it was to an email account I never check. I've changed it now...

Do they sell well? How much do you sell them for, if you don't mind me asking?

    I've now commented ;)

Glad your hand's better. I'm sure it won't be long until you're back sewing :D

    Hello
I'm a bit of a lurker but I would love some advice from experienced sewers/dressmakers. I bought a beautiful wool and cashmere camel coat in a charity shop yesterday - it fits beautifully but is about 4'' too long. It's fully lined with a vent at the back and there are facings at the front that seem to be piped?? I can sew (machine and hand) but I'm not sure whether to tackle this myself or take it to a seamstress/tailor to alter. I'm struggling to work out how best to go about it if I attempt it and I'm worried about ruining the coat. Any thoughts/tips/ideas would be much appreciated.

After decades of sewing, I have accepted that there is a gulf between even experienced home dressmakers and tailors. I would be inclined to get a quote from a 'proper' tailor to alter the coat - not one of the 'instant alterations' places. It sounds such an amazing buy that it would probably be worth it. Or wear it with panache the length it is?

There's a Buttercup bag thread on Flickr, where some people link through to their shops, might give you some idea of pricing. You can find it through where it says, 'You might also like' on Rae's page http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html

I'm off to Ikea at the weekend to look at fabrics this weekend :D

still have one more seat pad too make think that is a job for this afternoon and i will charge my camera batteries up and take some photos. not done much sewing the past couple of days, but i do have a pair of jeans to take in although never done jeans before so thats my job for tonight. everyones make are great love the bag and the cushions.
  • Thank you to everyone who posts on this thread....the work is all beautiful.

I have a question for the quilters out there.
I am looking at wadding and not sure which to buy.....the fabric i'm using is all cotton mixes. Do i need to use the cotton wadding (which is more expensive) or can i use the cheaper polyester wadding? ....also do most people find ebay the cheapest place to buy from?.... and lol sorry which weight do people generally use?

    Thank you

I have used cotton or cotton/poly. I did some cushions with poly. You get a fluffier quilt with poly but I much prefer cotton wadding. You get a heavier quilt that feels really cozy.

The only thing is that cotton/cotton blend is double the price (at least) I bought my last lot from asding.com

here is a little guide to different waddings
