Pootle i used my cricut machine to cut my letters out in fabric as i only discovered it did it the other day too. It is so quick and fab. I think the silhouette is a similar machine isn't it. Cricut have a sale on at the moment including on there machines. i had to resist buying the cricut expression which was reduced right down and has quite a few cartridges included:D Seths gran posted a thread on it yesterday with a link if anyone is interested.
fab makes everyone lovely coasters and embroidery guys.
Thanks Tina. Yes I think the cricut is similar. I looked at that a while ago and was really tempted. From what I can gather it works fab if you use wonder under with it. I quite fancy the idea of doing heat transfer vinyl but not sure if the cricut works with that or not. I think you can draw on fabric with the silhouette as well which I think might come in handy for me doing embroidery as Im terrible at drawing! x
MissPixie, your embroidery looks brilliant. Chocolate, I still cant see your pic. maybe try photobucket?0 -

I havent made anything with it for years now and cant remember how to go about it. Think you have to change the needle but what thread to use? And do you need to sew with a stretch stitch?
When you cut out use more pins to stop the favric sort of squirming particularly if the fabric is not heavyweight
As other post you will need a ballpoint needle and polyseter thread.
If your machine doen't hava a stretch stitch a small zig zag is fine but remember either will be difficult to unpick so tack first to save unpicking time. If the material is quite fine and getting chewed up use a strip of tissue paper over the seam line0 -
Beautiful quilts Midge and Hart... I haven't attempted a quilt of any description, but I'm toying with the idea.
This is my latest make, a joint project with my daughter...
She wanted to make something out of felt, so I had a search on the internet and came up with this.
I made the doll and she made the clothes.
There are more details on my home page.
Cheers
Sarah:D
I love this little doll. I hope your daughter treasures it for years. Here is my rag-doll my mum made for me over 55 years ago I have still got her, she is very threadbare but I wouldn't part with her for the world!0 -
I got s super duper new machine for chrimbo but what I am getting to is now I look at the machine and think wow it looks fab but gulp I am too terrified to go near it - and have forgotten everything I was learning - where do I start - what do I make to get me back into it - dont laugh I know I am a kipper but dont know what to do to get back on the bike if you see what I mean
LOL I also got a nice machine for Christmas, haven't used one since I was at school so 12 years ago. But I have been inspired by all the lovely things on here...so last night I gave it a go. Well would you believe the stitching was sooooo bad like it was missing stitches. It nearly got smashed and thrown out the window. After speaking to my mum I tried with a bit of old cotton rther than the stretchy jersey stuff and perfecto!! So I will stick to sewing cotton only
So danemi1 if you stick at it so will Ibecause I'm terrified of it and I may get distracted and sew my fingers together, or worse my bag will not come out looking like the one on the pattern. I don't know what thing you want to make but I'm making a bag, a simple tote kind of one nothing fancy. Nice cotton-nonstretchy material. I may put some pics on my blog when I get a bit more used to the machine and get the bag started.

Thanks for all the tips about the jersey sewing and the lining of the hoody. I will grab a pack of ballpoint needles when I go up town in the week. The fabric isnt too thin, its quite a nice weight really. Looking foward to see what I can come up with out of it.0

I popped on here what Im sure is years ago.DH bought me a sewing machine for my birthday and I was too afraid to use it. I had bought some contrasting fabric and a pattern for a tote.
I was encouraged to try and cut and overlocked my fabric...then I looked at the instructions and put it all away:eek:
Well today I decided as part of my goals this year to finish what I started...I got it all out and started sewing...I finished the outside of the bag and the lining.Im going to press all the seams now (it was surprisingly easy and LOADS of fun)but here's where I need some help...
The instructions say to pin the lining to the front and back right sides together, with the straps pinned in between-it doesnt make sense to meIf I do that-how do I turn it so that the lining is inside the bag? What am I missing?
ETA:I found this fab tute so waiting for the chicken to go for DS1 to go to bed, then will put DS2 in his jumperoo to bounce out his last bit of energy-then I'll press the seams and aim to finish this tote tonight-is it sad Im so excited?0 -
Hi everyone
just popped in to show you all that at long last Im back sewing lol.
I love making the frame purses and the buttercup bags are so easy to do. I made 3 1hour bags (but the blue one I started 3 days ago) I have updated my home page for clearer pic's
Little_miss, dont give up, I only started sewing last year (feb) and I just followed lots of easy tutorials and came on here for inspiration and sometimes a kick up the behind lol when I felt like giving up. We just love everything anyone has made as it means it has come from the heart.
Well off to finish glueing the other side of another frame purse (the messy part lol).Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Yes you can use heat transfer vinyl on the cricut. Also you can now buy printable vinyl, not heat transfer, for the cricut. Not used it just heard about it.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
