    Thanks Cuddles, I bought some blue checked fleece today to make Grandson's hoody and some blue lining t line it with. Has anyone ever made a top with a lining before? Was wondering whether you make the lining up the same as the top then hand stitch it around the edges to the outer bit or if there is another way of doing it? I wont be putting stretchy cuffs on or anything but want to do a zip down the front so it is like a jacket. Will just be using one of his ones he already has as a pattern but dont think he has any that are lined already.

    Also bought myself a remnant of brown jersey with a gold metallic pattern printed on it to make myself some kind of top. Any tips on sewing jersey? I havent made anything with it for years now and cant remember how to go about it. Think you have to change the needle but what thread to use? And do you need to sew with a stretch stitch?

    Thanks a lot, Rufus xx

    When I made my butercup bag, you had to make up two bags. One out of fabric & one out of lining and then put one inside the other (right sides facing)and sew around the top. I imagine that you would do the same with a top, except I would sew them together at the hem (leaving a small gap for turning) and then top stitch the hem line after. However, I haven't got as far as dress making yet so not sure if that is the right way to do it. lol

    Tamster I love doing the buttercup bags so much I decided to buy the pattern and the permission to sell as I have a craft fair in March to do. It included the large version with zip fastening so might make some of them too.

  • Well I'm at the end of page 284 so getting closer however just realised I was going to make two homemade advent calender items each month the hubby. The advent pockets are relatively tiny so any suggestions gratefully received as to what I could make to put in there he likes; cooking, wine, beer, fishing, football, hiking..... I always think making for men seems so much harder than women!!

    Yesterday in my attempts at daily creativity I made a couple of tester coasters out of some scraps I had lying around;

    Laura, I love your coasters (and your blog - just been having a nosey and am now your newest follower.) ;)

    Tina, your bag is fab. I want to get into applique but still practising!

    For all of you who do like applique I read some fab news last night whilst blog hopping. The Silhouette now cuts fabric!!! Am so excited. Definately going to buy one. Ive been eyeing it up for ages as the stuff you can do with vinyl and flocked vinyl looks brilliant but now that I know it cuts fabric too there is no question Im getting one. It links to your computer too so you can pretty much print whatever you want and dont have to spend loads of money on different dies. :T:T

    My other experiments aren't really good enough to share, none the less I am improving :beer:

    I really like these Laura, may have to pinch the idea if that's OK?

    I'm new to the thread and trying to read through it, but it's taking a while. I got a sewing machine for Christmas so am going to try it out over the next couple of days. Just hope I don't sew my fingers together :o

    Arhh I love the idea that someone may use one of my random ideas that's fab :) Although I'm sure you'll do a far better job, I really really need to learn the craft of blind sewing as unfortunately it means I'm currently having to sew on the outsides to finish off my pieces :D

    Everyone is so talented on here I'm hoping it will rub off on me, if nothing else I should get an A for effort this year, I've been using the sewing machine most days - may need to put a timer in the sewing room as think the hubby is beginning to miss me :j

    MissPixie My mum made the bunting for our wedding (bless her I was demanding), she used some satin wedding material which she managed to get for 50p a meter at Birmingham Rag Market and then put coloured binding round the edges, then she made me an extra one which she embroidered the good life and two chicks on (my fav program in the world).

    Thanks PootleFlump, I'm a wanabe creative genius :rotfl:Luckily I have a fabulous mum who when I don't think I can make something will do it for me - spoilt I know!! I thought if I had a blog and made myself post each day it would mean there would be no excuse not to at least try and craft - so far its working :T
