Help? I bought a meter of this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390242258336&category=28161&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
Its a medium weight wool coating. I bought it to see what it was like, wated to make a coat (get more if it was nice), but I don't like it, coat wise...
Any easy ides to make it into something? I thought a kilt for my toddler daughter http://www.scottishdance.net/highland/MakingKilt.html But... hmmmm.... It would be nice but it would need some embelishments of some sort. Plus I'd still have a bit left over since a kilt would use about a third of it (cutting along the longest legth to get the nice frayed edge).

rufusdog: just looked at your homepage your hoodie is gorgeous...........did you use a pattern? The quilt is lovely too. It would look great quilted with some sort of metallic thread.
Thank you, and to the others as well. Funny you should say that about the metallic thread as it is just what I am using lol, great minds think alike.
I didnt have a pattern for the hoody, just cut around one that I already had by turning it inside out and trying to cut around the seams.
My Grandson saw me in it when I tried it on and asked me to make him one. Its his birthday in March so I am thinking of doing him one for then. Might get some fleece if I can find any cheap.0 -

Hi all
I used the 505 spray on a couple of quilts I did and it is good because you can pull apart if necessary. I did find however that on a large quilt it was still difficult to keep all layers stretched. I did one quilt using pins and hand quilted it and foud that came out well but it was a smaller quilt.
I ave just found this though:http://www.creativegrids.com/acatalog/info_5_N0567.html and think it might be worth investing in. It is so hard to stop the underneath from scrunching up and spoiling the final quilt.
For patterns I have used some templates and a vanishing pen and the one I have just done I simply practice drawing on paper then just go for it on the quilt. I am pleased with the final results and will post piccie once binding is done.
So far I have done two quilts copying a layout from internet and three that I have made up as I go along. I think that is the fun of quilting that you can do whatever you like once you have the basics.
More info to take inno wonder I'm procrastinating!
Thank you for that link it looks very interesting will have to investigate that, it does seem that it makes quilitng easier on a sewing maching.0 -
I wondered if anyone could help. During Christmas I read a post somewhere on here about a denim ragged quilt with a link to a blog with easy to floow instructions.
I have got everyone collecting jeans - and now I cant find the link or the post despite endless hours searching through everything. If anyone or even the lady who posted recognises this could someone point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.0 -
The teacher on my course reccomended IKEA pencil for marking quilts. I found that the washable markers ran out really quickly and chalk didn't give a sharp enough line so I ended up following her advice. I haven't washed my quilt yet though, so don't know how easy it washes out (although she did say it came out easily in the wash)
Work and life are getting in the way of my sewing atm - I need to win the lottery so I can sit & craft all day lol0 -

I did a search in google IMAGES for "denim rag quilt" and found lots of links
I did see one on display at a craft fair, they had got a square of denim & a square of fleece. Sewn the squares together so all the raw edges were on the denim side (so the fleece side was just neat squares) Not sure if that makes sense?
I have too many unfinished quilts to be starting anymore - but they look really good!0 -
Hi everyone,
I wonder if you could help me. My sister is turning 21 very soon and I want to get her a sewing machine as she wants to start making dresses and so on. Could I please have some advice on the best machine to buy for someone who has a small amount of experience on a sewing machine?
Also she was mentioning something about a machine with patterns already on...I am not sure what she means by this so if anyone could help decipher this I would really appreacite it.
I am looking for a good quality machine which will last. I really don't mind about price I just want to make sure she is happy.
Thank you all for your help!
