I have been having a clearout of the wardrobe and came across 2 quilts that I made a loooong time ago, during my 'Victorian' period! This is the patchwork one made from some of my children's clothes.

yipppe i've finished my patchwork quilt. But never again am i making one so big. after i finished it i realised i have made a huge bo bo and got one panel completly wonky, but i don't mind. it add's to the rustic ness. if it was for my bed, or the kids then it would bug me, but it for back of sofa and no one can see it.

now i'm on the look out for some netural baby fabric to make a patchwork play mat. i want it to be baby prints, in pastel shade's, but unisex. has anyone seen any nice 4 inche fabric squares ? i have a look on ebay and unless i want pink or blue i can't find anything neutral.

also i want to make a folding changing mat, to keep in changing bag. i thought i could use 4 oz wadding for the inside. just wondering if anyone has made one and if so do you have any tip's.

Do you have a fabricland near you? They have jelly rolls and charm packs of pink, blue or mint flannel with baby prints on. They have exactly the same ones in my John Lewis too. Only difference is that FL are about £3 (ot there abouts) and JL were £8!!!!!

Hi there. I've really hardly been here since the thread started, despite being named in the op! I'm blaming that on the fact that a out two months after I got my machine I got a new house and it has taken me till just before Xmas to get my machine set up in my new house. As a result I am still a novice at this sewing malarky! My question is this - I am making my dd a quilt for her birthday and am contemplating a patchwork foot. Do you get universal ones that fit all/most machines, or do I need a machine specific one? I have a necchi. Thanks!

I wouldn't bother. I move my needle to the right & then just use the edge of my standard foot - and I have an ancient machine so I imagine you can do the same on modern machines.

I've been lurking around here for a while and stolen a few lovely patterns :)
Love the tote bag, that is going on my list of things to attempt!
I've just brought lots of fabrics squares off ebay, can anyone link me up to an easy guide to making a patchwork quilt or perhaps recommend any other projects which I can do with them?

    Thanks :D

I have done most of mine by strip-piecing or with
Jelly Rolls using this book JellyRollQuilts-200.jpg

These are my favourite blogs but also good for tutorials

    http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/
    http://www.modabakeshop.com/search/label/Quilt

I did the friendship braid from the above book which would be good for a beginner - but I followed these instructions as they were simpler. I think it is quite forgiving if your sewing is wonky (like mine)

    http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/01/sultry-jelly-roll-project-sheet.html

By strip-piecing and chain piecing you can make a lap quilt in just a few evenings!

I should say that I make my own jelly rolls by cutting fabric into 2.5inch strips as they can be expensive to buy.

I have my current works in progress on my homepage. (and I only started sewing in the summer)

That's a very comprehensive website, but BY GOD I'd love to make it read better! ;)

What's the quality like? The actual fabrics, I mean, not the grammar :p

It's great to see everyone's latest projects - I love the owl Pootle, he's super cute.

Thanks everyone for all of your encouraging replies, I have had a brilliant day today, I decided to use the bag and was asked by two people where I bought it  I guess I forgot to tell people I had a new hobby, but I've been asked to make three lots of things for other people today so I guess I have even more reason to have the other lessons I'm planning :j:j
2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
2014 £2 savers club #3 - I've no idea, but the pig is beginning to get mighty heavy

I know what you mean, its so 1990s dahling! Theres even spooky music on the halloween page! That aside I've bought a few poly cotton fabrics and a wool like fabric from them and they were great. As long as the pictures are ok and some of them aren't then its a great option as they are much much cheaper than other places. They have got a few shops around, I went to the one in Brighton ages ago and they are great, watch the postage tho as sometime it can be pricey.
