All their shops are down south and I'm up in North Yorkshire, so getting to the shops isn't an option for me. £8.50 I think their postage said it was.

I think I'm lucky that I always have the sound muted on my laptop ;)

I have been having a clearout of the wardrobe and came across 2 quilts that I made a loooong time ago, during my 'Victorian' period! This is the patchwork one made from some of my children's clothes.

    Loving your quilt pennib xx

I have added some pics to my blog, theres one of my quilt I am making, its not finished yet, I have just made the top piece (patchwork) and am in the process of tacking the three layers together so I can make a start on the quilting.

Also a pic of a hoody top I made myself at the weekend from some lovely Laura Ashley fabric I got for Xmas and there is a pic of my desk in my craft room as I have finished decorating up there now and I am very pleased with it.

Fabulous makes Rufusdog - did you have a pattern for the hoody?
Also, do you do your quilting by hand or machine?

Wish I had a dedicated Craft Room!

    Hi everyone,

Hope someone can help...Ive got a thin knitted jumper that I love which very strangely appeared with a little hole on the bottom of the sleeve after being in the wash and on the airer. Id like to fix it nicely, but know Ill not do it very well if i just dive in and do it. Any one know of a good tutorial online? Ive looked online but nothing come up, just about fixing a knitted jumper and darning....never darned before

Have had a peek at your blog. Lovely hoodie. Are you going to do quilting on a machine or by hand? I have just ordered some more 505 adhesive to stick the layers together and then I can't procrastinate anymore. :o

Natc; My mum used to darn so well that you couldn't see where the garment ended and the darning began!
Darning went out of the window a long time ago...which is a shame. (Bring back sewing skills in school) She did teach me but I could never get anywhere as good. There is a tool called a mushroom (I think) that is used to put under the hole which makes it a bit easier. You do need matching thread, and I have used embroidery threads as there is such a large range of colours. But it would only work for a smaller hole I think due to the difference in threads. (Sorry I'm waffling now will stop) I hope that you understand what I mean:o

I do my quilting by hand, takes an age but its nice to do in the evenings especially now its cold. I dont stick my layers together, just lay them flat out on the table or on the floor and then pin through three layers as often as I can over the piece then I tack it together both ways across. I have tried a bit of quilting by machine but only on a small babies quilt. I much prefer the hand quilting as it doesnt pucker up at all.

The hoody I didnt have a pattern for it, I had a hoody which I bought in New Look which was just normal sweatshirt fabric. I turned it inside out and cut round the bits as best I could.
  • fabricland i believe charge you the exact Royal Mail price for postage. I think if you phone they can give you an estimate before posting. I have never needed to buy mail order as I have as store near me. I do wish I had a Dunelm Mill or Abakhan near me too as the Northern girls seem to get good bargains there.

And my theory for mysterious holes in clothes (particularily jersey) is using too much fabric conditioner.

rufusdog; I did think to pin together but read that it's easier with 505 spray so thought give it a go. Do you draw a pattern on your quilt beforehand or make it up as you go along?
