  • Hi, hope you don't mind me joining in. New to sewing - inspired to start after getting a lovely sewing box for christmas and of course after seeing everybody's fabulous makes. I made a crayon roll this week just to see if could actually sew and it turned out better than I thought it would! Took me 3 evenings as all hand sewn...considering machine investment! The sewing bit was not too bad, for some reason it took me ages to cut all the material out! It's given me a bit of confidence, next project I really want to make a kindle cover for hubbie, hoping to be his valentines pressie.

Hi there. I've really hardly been here since the thread started, despite being named in the op! I'm blaming that on the fact that a out two months after I got my machine I got a new house and it has taken me till just before Xmas to get my machine set up in my new house. As a result I am still a novice at this sewing malarky! My question is this - I am making my dd a quilt for her birthday and am contemplating a patchwork foot. Do you get universal ones that fit all/most machines, or do I need a machine specific one? I have a necchi. Thanks!

Hi hope i can join you ladies after being a knitter for 20 odd years i started knitting rabbits to sell last year and knitting the jumpers and sewing the skirts out of material with my mil old sewing machine which weighed a ton, then started with sock monkeys so have treated myself to a new toyota sewing machine from argos sale on Friday so will be trawling through this thread to see what you lovely people have been making and get some tips. I have a few books which i got bought at christmas one being the cath kidston book with the bag so hope that will be my first project, so i hope i can come on here and ask for advice when i get stuck.

I was bought a brand new spanking Brother XL 2620 for Christmas - as a surprise gift! I now need to know what the heck to do with it! I can thread it and can wind a bobbin. I cannot sew straight yet haha! So I'm in to learn a few things!

Hubby has bought me a sewing machine for my birthday :j I'm so excited even though I don't get it for another 5 weeks!!!!!

I have a huge list of things I want to make, but haven't used a machine since I was 12 when i used to help my nanna :) so I'm sure I won't manage half of what I intend to!!!!

When I do eventually sew something I'll post it x
