ikea sell cushion pads for 69p, as for back i would do the front patch work and do a plain back.
make the back about 1.5 times bigger than the front, cut it in half and overlap and hem to make an envelope style no buttons or zips required
look on youtube for videos for this method, very easy thats how i do all mine.0 -
Hello
New to this thread but I thought it might be a good place to get some advice! I am an artist and have always done bits of craft but never much sewing because I had an awful textile teacher in school who put me off. But I am getting married next year and am making everything myself and somehow ended up sewing lots of felt flowers and now I am getting very into it and want to make lots more! The plan is to eventually make lots of bunting to decorate the venue because we are having a big laid back fun day with lots of sweeets and games.
I am getting my first sewing machine this month(lets call it a birthday present to myself to make me feel better about all that money lol) and I am looking for ideas of a couple of things I could make myself just while I get to grips with it and practice. It can be anything really so long as it is simple because I may turn out to be rubbish! I have loads of material being delivered this week not very dear stuff so it doesn't matter much if I mess up
I am almost certain I am going to buy the Janome 2200xt from sewing machines direct if anyone has any comments on it, it would be interesting to hear.

Can anyone recommend any particularly good links/ youTube videos / magazines or books for a beginner to crocheting?
Dont forget that Americans use different terms for their crochet stitches than we do. So dont get confused! Tjw is excellent though and there is a Canadian guy on youtube too (sorry cant remember his name),and he is very good too. They both have lots and lots of crochet video`s on there. Enjoy!0 -

You could try this thread. It's quite long, but lots of links and pictures of things people have made.

Hi Katy. Congratulations on your wedding later this year.
Ideas for starting sewing - straight lines are good. Try a morsbag http://www.morsbags.com/ first. Then you could have a go at a reversible bag http://www.ehow.com/video_4438348_introduction-making-own-tote-bag.html. I love making these and they will be perfect for when you go wedding shopping.0 -
Hi MissPixie
Just a few suggestions to try.
Start with a Crayon Roll - practice cutting and sewing straight lines
http://chocolateonmycranium.blogspot.com/2008/04/crayon-roll-tutorial.html
Adapt for knitting needles or scissors and cutters
Also suggest Tissue Holders

Or a Fabric Basket

Good luck - you'll soon be addicted!Jack of all trades ... Master of none
