Hello :) New to this thread but I thought it might be a good place to get some advice! I am an artist and have always done bits of craft but never much sewing because I had an awful textile teacher in school who put me off. But I am getting married next year and am making everything myself and somehow ended up sewing lots of felt flowers and now I am getting very into it and want to make lots more! The plan is to eventually make lots of bunting to decorate the venue because we are having a big laid back fun day with lots of sweeets and games.

I am getting my first sewing machine this month :D (lets call it a birthday present to myself to make me feel better about all that money lol) and I am looking for ideas of a couple of things I could make myself just while I get to grips with it and practice. It can be anything really so long as it is simple because I may turn out to be rubbish! I have loads of material being delivered this week not very dear stuff so it doesn't matter much if I mess up :)

I am almost certain I am going to buy the Janome 2200xt from sewing machines direct if anyone has any comments on it, it would be interesting to hear.

Thankyou for all the ideas! I am so excited I have so much I want to make but I can't order the machine till after the 13th and I am not at home until tommorrow night so I can't even make a start or things. No doubt when I get home I will be up all night cutting stuff out ready for when I have finished practicing sewing :)

    Hi
Im not sure how much they are on sewing machines direct but I noticed the machine you are looking at in John Lewis today on special for £89. I remembered reading your post yesterday so thought Id let you know just incase its cheaper. I dont really "know" this machine but from reading the spec it looks like a good deal. The only thing I couldnt see if it had was the ability to lower the feed dogs for free motion. Let us know how you get on with it. x

Can anyone who does quilting help me please. Im about to buy a new foot for my machine and not sure whether to get this or this

One of them seems to do 1/8" and 1/4" but the other has what looks like a guide to run your fabric along. Can anyone help me choose please. I havent done any quilting yet so would prefer for someone who knows about it to give me their thoughts before I buy. Ta. x
  • Not sure if anyone else frequents the grabbit board, but these look like a reasonable price.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2961512
