Some lovely makes recently - I love loking at them all, everyone is so talented.
Did any one notice the lovely poppies they were wearing on X factor last night? I was inspired to make my own out of felt scraps. I will still put money in the poppy box at work though- I just wont take a poppy. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -

That's lovely, and a brilliant idea. But how big is it? Is that a big coat button in the middle of it (I think I've got one very similar in my button tin). Did you stiffen it with interfacing? I feel inspired now - I might take apart the paper one I've got and make a felt one tomorrow (but I will put more money in the tin - I usually have to buy a few each year anyway!)0 -
Hi guys
I've just started sewing and would like to invest in a sewing machine - but I don't really know the first thing about them. I was looking at this machine
http://www.littlewoods.com/jmb-70-watt-sewing-machine-jmsm1040/729778368.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f3279%2fq%2fsewing&trail=3279&prdToken=/p/prod3823110-sku5500799
And was hoping someone more experienced could give me their opinion.
I was hoping to be able to buy it on my littlewoods catalogue so I could spread out the cost interest free, but I still can't afford to spend a huge amount. Sadly I've had no luck on freecycle.
Many thanks0 -

I am also making boxes for my DD1 theme butterflies and flowers and DD4 using film quotes as she is constantly blurting them out at just the appropriate moment haha, Was going to make her a twilight one but trends change so the quotes seemed longer lasting.
I am leaving the tricky part (covering the boxes) to the end as I use the evenings to make appliques ( When of course the girls go home/ bed!!!)
Wow, thats impressive. How do you get them cut out so precisely? I would love to make stuff like that (still considering getting a die cutter as I cant cut very well!)

Morning ladies
I have bought a lovely pure wool jumper from the charity shop to felt and have washed it twice at 60 degrees but it doesnt look as if it has felted enough. (bet it would have if I hadn't been trying:rotfl:)
So how many times do you need to wash things before they get stiffer? (clean responses only please!:o)
Thanks

Nothing tricky PootleFlump I printed off a couple of images of each design that I wanted and cut 1 back ground piece in a single piece of felt and all other pieces are cut out like a jigsaw.I reassemble them using a matching thread in small running stitches and top stitch where necessary using embroidery thread. If piece is too small to cut out I embroider or use sequins (eg hello kitty's eyes and Betty's garter). Once I have covered the boxes I will stitch the appliques to the outside of the boxes and onto needlecases, scissor cases etc. I have bought some buttons that you cover yourself and I am thinking maybe I will take a small feature eg Kitty's bow, Betty's shoe or wink and embroider on the button to close box.Pucker up and kiss it Whoville! - The Grinch:kiss:0

Yes its a coat button, the poppy is probably 4inches across. I am wearing it now - TBH Next time I would make it slightly smaller (maybe 3inches). It depends on how brave you are and how much of a statement you want to make!
There is no stiffening, but again it wouldn't hurt, I may add some!
I was also going to add some red beads or sparkles on the petals, but everyone in my house said it was fine as it was, keep it simple. Not yet convinced myself.....You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
