    Hi Ladies,

I thought I better post something, as I keep coming here to see if anyone has posted as I haven't had an email notification...!

I have been busy this last couple of days making more felt covered hairslides and some more Crayon Rolls. I got some of the Crayon Fabric shown on here by Hart44 and have made 4 so far, to go onto my craft stall. I will take some pics later to show you.

I went out this morning to buy some crayons, would you believe I couldn't find any normal crayons in Toys R Us! The cheapest they had were glitter crayons at £2.99. I know they have some in hobby craft at 99p or Tesco at 99p (packs of 24). Anyone have any suggestions where to buy cheaper?

    Cheers

    Sarah:D

I am after some of you wonderful peoples knowledge, the doors on my cupboard under the sink have seen better days and i have taken them off,
I am now thinking of putting a curtain across the space, now i have about 3 single duvets that my dds have out grown, would these be suitable to use, I' m thinking I could open them up and cut to size, then hem the top and thread curtain wire through, does this sound right?
    Thanks all xxxxx

That sounds like a perfect solution. In the past, I've made kitchen curtains from suitable patterned bedsheets if I wanted a quick update for the kitchen.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Deborah I did this in my kitchen, except there never were any doors there in the first place, I chose to use fabric as I wanted to break up the run of doors and I like a 'country kitchen' style.

I used gingham to make the curtains then put tape and brass rings on the top. I put a bit of dowelling along the underside of the worktop and threaded the rings through it. That's all a bit more complicated than it need be but they work very well (and have been in place for quite a few years now).

If I had had spare duvets that I liked I would have happily made the curtains out of those!

    that looks really good!

here's what i did a couple of years ago and still going strong:

to fill the 3 inch gap each side of my cooker i cut and hemmed some of a old sheet to size and put 4 metal eyelets in each and simply hung them off cup hooks on the underside of the work top. not totally perfect but simple and easy. good luck deborah64!

Sarah, I had problems finding crayons too so I opted for the colour pencils other wise I would never done the crayon (pencil) rolls :rotfl:

Deborah, I mostly use sheet and old duvet covers for my sewing projects so they should be fine for curtains :D

Love the kitchens by the way (just wish mine was finished, I started 2nd wk of summer hols and its still not done :o) I want to make some window curtains for mine :o
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

  • Re: choosing a sewing machine...I'd go for a Brother machine every time. I absolutely love mine and when I upgrade (I can dream) it will be to another Brother. I have found their customer service to be second to none in the UK. Although I have heard bad things about Brother (US).

Over the weekend I made four Chritsmas stocking although only two are totally finished. Here are the finished two which are mine and my sons.

I also made a sock monkey (my first one ever) It came out pretty good for a first attempt and it has now been claimed by my 8yr old daughter:rotfl:I have two more in progress which are to hang out the top of my kids stockings on Christmas Day. I have ordered some eyes and am going to have a go with making the arms moveable. I'm not sure how this will work out yet but I'll keep you posted on the progress:D

Today I have completed an order for three bookmarks. Two were initialled to the customers requirements and the other is a Cath Kidston bookmark. I am very pleased with how these turned out and was also thrilled to get an order:D Thank you Teresa I really appreciate it. Here they are, a denim one for a young man, a brown/green striped one for an 50+ man and the CK for a lady.

I am a complete newbie to sewing, but have been very inspired by the lovely ideas on the thread. Thank you everyone :)

I was wondering if I could ask for some advise?

I teach children with special needs I would like to make some story sacks and theme the material to the story. How much material will I need (I would like the sacks to be about half the size of a pillow case) and what do I use for a drawstring?

I would alos like to make some bunting. Does anyone have a link to a template or any tips?

    Thanks

You've almost answered your own question - why not actually use a pillowcase? A few people on here have made lovely things out of pillowcases bought in the sales or from a charity shop

What sort of things will you be putting into the story sacks? At work we have hand puppets, board games and more books to go with that theme/story. So I know that half or even a pillowcase wouldn't be big enough for us. Ours are at least 60cm square, if not bigger, but they stay in school - I suppose they would need to be smaller if the students are taking them home.

I have found simple instructions for you here

And ideas for story sacks here
