i've got so much sewing to do. i should be getting my jones machine back from having it's service this week. Hubby was given it for me but i wanted to get it serviced before using it as the lady who owned it hadn't used it in over 20 years. i can't wait to try out the embriodery and letter writting on it. although having said that i'm quite excited that it does butterfly and duck stitches. bit sad to be excited about that, but my old singer only did straight line's. lol

she grinch am loving the hello kitty one my youngest aged 6 has asked for a sewing box of her own for xmas and she would adore this. commited to change i havent sewed in years but i bought the singer inspiration and it is a fantastic machine so easy to thread/use etc, but your choice looks like a good machine
I didn't use a machine for them, it is all handstitching, pieces all too small to machine

  • Hi guys

I've just started sewing and would like to invest in a sewing machine - but I don't really know the first thing about them :o. I was looking at this machine

    http://www.littlewoods.com/jmb-70-watt-sewing-machine-jmsm1040/729778368.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f3279%2fq%2fsewing&trail=3279&prdToken=/p/prod3823110-sku5500799

And was hoping someone more experienced could give me their opinion.

I was hoping to be able to buy it on my littlewoods catalogue so I could spread out the cost interest free, but I still can't afford to spend a huge amount. Sadly I've had no luck on freecycle.

    Many thanks

I have no experience of these machines. If no one else answers your query the only suggestion I can make is to order it and make your mind up once you can feel how the machine handles. It might be worth considering the Brother which is £10 dearer. It has fewer stitches but they are a reputable company and are known for quality.
It is a hard decision to make especially when on a limited budget but on the whole spend as much as you can afford on a machine. You will be glad you did in the long run.
Sorry it's not the advice you needed but just wanted to respond to your post. Hopefully someone else will be able to help.

My daughter has a Brother and tbh she has awful problems with the tension, she`s since looked at reviews and found if the tension is not spot on then the machines are hard work.

If the curtains have a gathered top, I find it easier to take the curtain tape off and sew it back on rather than re-hem the bottom.
