[Sorry can you tell I am just a bit excited!!!! :j:j:j[/QUOTE]

Congratulations on your new sewing machine - you are allowed to be very excited :D

I'm sure you'll love it and of course we'll be seeing lots of lovely makes on here (won't we?).

Don't know if it's just me but since I bought my first Janome they have sort of gravitated towards me. First I bought a second hand 6125QC which a workmate was selling then I found a Janome overlocker in a charity shop. It had apparently been handed in because the owner was about to throw it through the window. I paid £20 for it and sat for about 4 nights patiently reading the book, adjusting tension dials, breaking threads, starting again, and finally got it going well.

So be warned - your new machine may not be alone for long!

Sorry folks - made a mess of quoting, I was congratulating Danemi1 on her new machine, which of course she does not know about because it is coming from Santa....:)
  • I posted a couple of weeks ago about Harry & Rosie - well, I finally made a stert - but decided a practice run was in order!! :rotfl:

If you'd like to see a pic of my efforts they are in my blog seeing as I still keep messing up adding pics on here!! *insert roll eyes smiley here*

I made a baby dolly buggy snuggle :D

It actually looks really nice done up, needs buttons. I also did my first button holes, so I'm happy and excited :D

Used little knots of the fleece off cuts rather than buttons (since I haven't got any buttons). DD likes it :D

That's great - my DD would love one - might have to add it to my ( ever growing) list of things to make! :)

the second linkis very similar to the machine i bought in the summer but mine has 60 stitches, overlocking stitch is one of the 60.

of those two i would go for the 2nd if you can afford it, you will grow into it very soon once you get sewing

    Hi Ladies
I am new to this! I did do GCSE & A-Level Textiles but that knowledge has all disappeared and my brain is live a sieve since having two babies!! But I would really like to get back into it and Ive been doing some other crafts but since Im doing hampers that need lining Ive decided to take the plunge and buy a starter sewing machine - handy for kids stuff too since I always send over to my friend who is a wonder at everything sewing!
Ive seen a couple of Brother machines that look good as a start - digital with a variety of stitches and buttonholes in case I really take to it and start to do lovely items like you guys!
It doesnt have to be a wonder or do embroidery! When I last used a machine (about 10 years ago!) they had overlock functions - is that still the case? Is it classed as a seperate function or another stitch? I am thinking I should have that if I am going to use to alter clothes for us etc.
    Ive seen these two

    What do you think ladies?

Hopefully once Ive got this little hurdle sorted out Ill be able to join you! Although I know it will take me an age to get as good as any of you - local college evening classes here I come I think!!!

  • tiamai_d, the doll buggy snuggle looks great - the fabric certainly is not gross!

danemi1, you are a lucky girl. I can see your family having selection boxes and chocolates for Christmas dinner while you play on your new machine. :D

Love the inventive way you used knots tiamai_d to fasten this, as it is very child friendly with no detatchable buttons or poppers as a choke hazzard. Wonderful idea :)

Well Ive made a pocket tissue holder and a sock monkey :j for my first attempt with a sewing machine I think they went okish but my hand sewing on the sock monkey was truly awful!! Any tips on how you all do it so well? Mine just looks liked a child stitched it on :o but I like him and was really chuffed I just need lots of practice :D

Tiamai_d The dolly buggy snuggle looks lovely and your daughter looks like she loves it already :)

Danemi1 Wow I bet you are really excited :) :j

Well ive got to page 75 of this thread so far and have loads of bookmarked links! I did realise that I should probably have clicked on peoples blogs on my way :o but I guess going through and clicking on blogs afterwards shouldn't take too long (she hopes!!) :D

ok - I am hoping you girls can help - I have been umming and aahing about getting a sewing machine for ages - I am currently using my neighbours daughters machine (She has 4 or 5) I havent been sewing that long only a few months - I want a machine that I can grow into not get bored with later but something that is still easy to use. I have been looking and looking online and a friend said to me you really should go into a store and try a few - so today this is what I have been doing and I have fallen in love with this

it is the Janome dc4100 here is a link to the details - what do you think

When I went into the store I looked at quite a few and chatted to the guy and tried a few out - saw the price and though OUCH but he has two ex demos that have quite a bit off which makes it better and to be honest you cant tell they have been used - and still have same warranty which will start from CHristmas as it is to be a chrimbo pressie frm my hubby and the munchkins - am I mad or does it look good?

Hi Danemi1, I have that machine :T and I love it. I've had it for nearly 2 years now and have had no problems with it at all. I too went to my local store and tried a few different machines and I liked the feel of this one the most so decided to go for it.

I love the fact that it's computerised and you can move the needle up and down at the press of a button. The range of decorative stitches are fab, espcially for someone like me who enjoys craft sewing. I would highly recommend this machine (although the only one slight negative is that I would prefer if it could go a little faster at its max). Hope that helps.
