that fabric land uk site is lush! I have been drooling over zebra print to make a dress for DD (we love zebra print) but eBay were too dear. Ive found it for £3.39 a meter! Sooo.... guess who will be skint next week? Need to find a nice dress to make now. Going to practice some new hems (french hem?) and my necklines as per that tutorial someone linked too on some gross fabric I got for pennies on eBay. Probably would be nice as teddy bear clothing or something but it just looks weird. I got it from a private seller who no doubt bought it from an eay store I use.

First though, I have dishes and ironing to do. :(

ETA, gross fabric here what would you do with it? I have 1mt.

That fabric looks quite nice . I'd make a little quilt and pillow for my grandaughters dolly pram . or some dolly clothes.

oooh congratulations. I'm sure by the time xmas comes you'll have lots of things lined up to do and the fabric to do them.

I bought the machine from lidl a few weeks ago and it's great . I used to work in a sewing factory and have used loads of different machines.

  • Does anyone have a baby on the way or any newborns in the family? There are two lovely freebie patterns on SewmamaSew blog. A bonnet- perfect for a Christening and a hip carrier. I could of done with the hip carrier myself about 6 months ago! http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?paged=2 This is one of my favourite blogs, there is a tutorial for almost everything!

Who was it with the zebra fabric? There is a free dress pattern on the Oliver and S website that lots of the ladies on here have made, It is a summer dress, but you could do thicker straps and wear it with L-sleeve tshirt and leggings/tights. The site also has excellent basic sewing technique tutorials.

That's not shirring, it's smocking. I remember doing that when I was 7 in top infants (not as detailed as your friend did it though I wouldn't imagine!) I've never done it since but I wouldn't mind having another go.

Yes of course it is, when I was typing it I was thinking is that right but couldn't think of another word. :o She made some fab smocks to go over some dresses as was the fashion in the 70's (well where I was anyway):D

I bought my DD1 a smocked M&S dress a few years ago, and someone else recently had a child's smocked dress (I think M&S again). I'd love to make one for my DD2 for next summer. So I suppose I'd better start thinking about a pattern now. It's easier to do if you have fabric which is already spotted (I seem to remember that's what I did mine on, but it is 40 years ago now :eek:)

I made a baby dolly buggy snuggle :D

It actually looks really nice done up, needs buttons. I also did my first button holes, so I'm happy and excited :D

Used little knots of the fleece off cuts rather than buttons (since I haven't got any buttons). DD likes it :D
  • Yoo hoo! Which interfacing do you lot use for your bags. I made one last weekend, but I am embarrased to show it, because it's so floppy.

The lady in the fabric shop only had thin wondaweb, and I couldn't see how that would be any use at all

    Thanks muchly xx

I'm not sure which interfacing I used for my bags but it was quite thick;) I found this site really helpful and has free instructions for bags http://www.u-handbag.com/
