Oh no! What a shame! Come back!!!:D0 -
Im so sorry to ask another question but im having problems knowing what a 'good' price for fabric is. Would you buy fat quarters? is about £2.25 a good price for a fat quarter....just seemed expensive to me or am I being cheap and probably underestimating the size of it.
Just been having a look on ebay for it
£2.25 is a little expensive for a FQ, but all 'designer quilting fabric' is expensive!! commonly £8 - £11 a meter. but it really depends on what you're making and why. i've just got some great end-of-range designer quiling fabric off ebay (jackiebrown53) for around £2.25 a 1/2 yard (c.£5.00/yard) - they are Civil War Reproduction prints bought for a specific project, and not something I'd find in a charity shop!
for just normal cottons, i charity shop - pillow cases at 50p or single sheets at £2.00 - though i've really noticed the prices going up this last year. i dont like to pay more than £2.00 for a shirt as at more than that it'd be cheaper to get new fabric off the market.
market cottons are about £2.00 to £4.00 a meter where i live. most are fine quality, but do hold them up to the light to check the thread count isnt ridiculously low! Fabric Land uk sell online at about that price and although their website is huge and confusing they are reliable.stardrops42 wrote: »My how this thread has grown since I started it:eek:
Haven't done any sewing for a while as I've been making cakes instead:D Anyway decided to open my little online shop again after a summer break and have already had a few sales so It's time to do some more sewing and start filling my shop again ready for all those christmas sales;) Loving all the makes on here, you're all so clever:T

I've nearly finished making my first bag which I'm pleased with so far but I'm afraid I'm about to make a pig's ear of it.
I'm supposed to top stitch all around the top but I don't think I can get the sides where the strap joins on under my pressure foot as it's so thick. I've just done across the front so far but the bobbin's run out of cotton. Any suggestions please while I refill the bobbin?0 -
I've got it done without too many problems after all. When I got to the straps I lifted the pressure foot and kept it up and managed to squeeze it all under and kept pulling it through hard so it didn't have chance to snarl up.0

Georgia That bag is lovely! well done, glad you managed to get it done ok
Thanks 23rdspiral I know what you mean about prices in charity shops going up, i went in one today and saw a shirt that I thought might be nice to cut up and they wanted £4.95  im too much of a cheapskate for that
On a plus side I went in a local fabric shop ( i know they have a proper name but I can't think of it right now!) and found that they sell the spools of moon thread for 90p which seems to be quite good and I got a couple of buttons for a sock monkey that ill hopefully try making over the weekendand some fabric because it was on offer and pretty
no idea what ill use it for yet though :rotfl:
Anyway the woman that runs it asked if I had anyone who could help me out while im learning, I haven't my family is all miles away and she said I could pop in or call her whenever I need help and then she gave me a pair of fabric scissors as a present and a piece of scrap fabric to practice on......lovely lady, made me smile knowing there are nice people around as well as on this thread0 -
