ok - I am hoping you girls can help - I have been umming and aahing about getting a sewing machine for ages - I am currently using my neighbours daughters machine (She has 4 or 5) I havent been sewing that long only a few months - I want a machine that I can grow into not get bored with later but something that is still easy to use. I have been looking and looking online and a friend said to me you really should go into a store and try a few - so today this is what I have been doing and I have fallen in love with this
it is the Janome dc4100 here is a link to the details - what do you think
When I went into the store I looked at quite a few and chatted to the guy and tried a few out - saw the price and though OUCH but he has two ex demos that have quite a bit off which makes it better and to be honest you cant tell they have been used - and still have same warranty which will start from CHristmas as it is to be a chrimbo pressie frm my hubby and the munchkins - am I mad or does it look good?0 -

GORGOUS! Well done, I love your bags
I really want to do a similar thing, but make pictures for my hallway. I have to get through all my christmas projects first!0 -

Wow! I've just looked at that one and you can't tell it's a first attempt. They are all very professional looking. Do you do sell them? If not, you should!0 -
Thanks 23rdspiral I know what you mean about prices in charity shops going up, i went in one today and saw a shirt that I thought might be nice to cut up and they wanted £4.95  im too much of a cheapskate for that
£4.95 ? ! i did treat myself to a beautiful floral shirt in the Sally Army shop a while ago... expensive for me at £3.99... found out last week it was a Liberty of London print... retailing at £50 the shirt, £21 a meter the fabric!! So i now think i got a bargain!:D...and some fabric because it was on offer and prettyno idea what ill use it for yet though :rotfl:
:T and now you've got yourself the beginnings of a Stash! Carefull, its a slippery sloap to fabric overload!.... she said I could pop in or call her whenever I need help and then she gave me a pair of fabric scissors as a present and a piece of scrap fabric to practice on......lovely lady, made me smile knowing there are nice people around as well as on this threadwow! that's so very nice of her. and i guess it means you'll be a customer for life, but with service i dont think that's a problem! :T
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
that fabric land uk site is lush! I have been drooling over zebra print to make a dress for DD (we love zebra print) but eBay were too dear. Ive found it for £3.39 a meter! Sooo.... guess who will be skint next week? Need to find a nice dress to make now. Going to practice some new hems (french hem?) and my necklines as per that tutorial someone linked too on some gross fabric I got for pennies on eBay. Probably would be nice as teddy bear clothing or something but it just looks weird. I got it from a private seller who no doubt bought it from an eay store I use.
First though, I have dishes and ironing to do.
ETA, gross fabric here what would you do with it? I have 1mt.0 -

No I don't think you are mad. If you have tried it out, like it and can afford it then go for it. The automatic buttonhole is handy. Mine has that and it is a lot easier than a four step buttonhole that a lot of machines have. I don't know anything about the reliability of Janomes though because mine is a Husqvarna.
If it makes you feel better about it my machine cost quite a bit more than that. It was my 40th birthday present from my MIL and DH and has proved to be a good purchase.0 -

How about some wiggly bags as linked previously? Probably would look quite nice in small patches!0 -
Danemi1 I have the Janome DC3050 which I think is the little brother of the machine you are looking at. The 4100 has a lot more stitches and also has extra features.
I bought it new about two and a half years ago and I have been very pleased with it, I've enjoyed sewing with it and have not had any problems.
One comment I would make about mine is that it does not have any adjustment to the foot pressure (don't know if this is the case with your model) so when I was making hearts and sewing round curves I felt the machine wanted to send me in a straight line all the time! I had only just returned to sewing after a very long time away and I've got better with practice. Probably my technique rather than the machine.
I'd agree with rosalie-lavender though, if you decide to go for it don't feel you are mad, just enjoy it!0 -
thanks ladies - you have made me feel better x0
